As Christians, we are told to be the light- we hear it at church in VBS and Youth, at camps, and from our parents, but what does being a "light" really entail? Does it mean just being happy all the time or acting like we live perfect lives? Not at all. Being a light for Christ is one of our biggest responsibilities as Christians, and it is also one of the most rewarding aspects of our faith.
The question is though- how do we, as Christians, serve as a light for the Lord?
Matthew 5:16
In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in Heaven.
Being a light for His kingdom isn't about how perfect our lives may or may not look or act like, because we are Christians, we don't have struggles. Being a light is about letting your faith be known, proclaiming the good news, and living a life that glorifies His kingdom.
When you let your light for the Lord shine, it can be seen in how you live your everyday life- from how you handle things when they just aren't going your way to your dedication to your faith even when things are going the way you want them to go.
Letting your light for Christ shine can be as simple as talking to the girl you sit next to in class because it look like she's having a bad day to lending a listening ear as well as sound advice when your friend comes to you with a struggle she has been dealing with.
To be the light, we must let the way we live our daily lives be filled with apparent signs of His love, joy, and faithfulness. We must, even through the trials and tribulations life throws our way, be rooted in His word and live out our faith in every decision we make.
To truly show others as well as lead others to the Light, we must try our best to live a life as Jesus himself did. YES we are going to fail because we aren't by any means perfect, but we must, through love, service, faithfulness, and determination choose to shine bright for the Kingdom of Heaven!
