It's the start of a new week — again. You have your routine. You wake up, get ready for the day, go to class, do some homework, go to any club meetings you have, workout, eat dinner, sleep. It goes on day after day after day. Oh, and every weekend you feel like you pretty much have a weekend down in college to a science.
There comes a time, usually in the middle of the semester, where I begin to feel like my life is just stuck on the same play, pause button, and it's driving me absolutely insane. It's the little things as a kid or teenager that I start remembering that I used to have time to do, that would make me so happy. Whether it's looking up at the stars and having deep talks with your friends, going on spontaneous hiking trips, or Target runs. I miss not being stuck in a rut. Now it's deadline after deadline, feeling like you're a dead, walking zombie.
I think that experiencing new things or recognizing the small things can help elevate people and bring them back to reality. Sometimes you feel like it's the end of the world, but just looking up at the stars and realizing how small your problems actually are. Simple adventures like hiking also make you appreciate the small successes in life and give you a peaceful state of mind away from all of the work-filled, drama-filled, stressful, time-cluttered life that you live sometimes.
Little things can be a big deal. So, doing a few things that are out of your routine can be the most exciting, relieving thing you do all week. There are too many times where we get drunk with our friends every weekend instead of going to do something exciting — something adventurous. I want to see more of that. More road trips, more scenic views, and more randomness to shake up an ordinary life.
Although it's hard to get out of a rut when you feel like you have zero time available because of all the things life throws at you, you can try some solutions to get out of it. So, set aside some time because being stuck in a routine can add to your sadness and make you less productive. Going on a run, laying out on the quad, maybe try visiting home, or even going outside and tossing a football around can even give you a piece of mind.
Getting out of your routine can save you from yourself from going mad. Go do something different today.
