I can’t be prouder to be able to call myself a sober student in college. It seems to be the high point in college to go out to tons of parties and drink until the next day. In my case, and I know many other students can agree with me, that is not true and there is so much more than just partying in college. The great thing about Endicott is that there are plenty of opportunities to have fun on campus without consuming anything:
Blue buzz: The best email you will receive is the blue buzz feed from Breanne each Monday morning. This email contains everything going on during the week whether it is on or off campus, with exact dates, times and links to sign up or buy a ticket for an activity. Whenever you receive that email, go to your calendar and plug in all the activities or events you want to attend for the upcoming weekend. The email is the key to happiness at Endicott for knowing when and where everything will occur during the week.
Calendar: Besides the blue buzz feed received each week; every student gets a calendar of events on and off campus each month. This can also help you plan a fun weekend that doesn’t involve getting dressed up and going out to a party. The school provides interesting off campus trips weekly such as going into Boston or going apple picking. The great thing is that there is a huge variety of activities to do on a daily basis.
Friends: When in college, everyone wants to make as many friends as possible, but sometimes that can be hard when you stay in, instead of going out every weekend. The great part about the Endicott community is that no one seems to care if you drink or not. This is awesome because you can make many more friends who still offer for you to come out, but don’t get mad if you turn it down. Also, having friends that know you do not want to drink will not put any pressure on you at a party if you are not holding a drink.
Homework: One great thing about being a sober student and not partying all weekend is that you get your homework done and over before the start of the weekend. You can also take your time to do a project and know it will not get pushed off. This helps because then you will not be as stressed as those other students who are cramming in all their homework or studying on Sunday night.
Weekend nights: You don’t have to do the same thing each weekend or try to figure out which party will let you in. There are so many great places to explore; You can go to downtown Beverly and check out some store and cafes, go into Salem and take a trip to a witch museum, or get a ticket for the train and go into Boston. Being able to tell someone all the fun and interesting things you did the past weekend is much better than not remembering or even not feeling well the next day. There is no shame in being a sober student.
