Although Valentine's Day is promoted as the holiday for love, there are just as many single people as there are those in relationships. I feel like people tend to forget about the people who are single on this day and think that those people are just lonely and miserable. That is the common misconception made through movies and TV shows that depict those people as such.
Even though I will be celebrating Valentine's Day single, I am not dreading this day. Contrary to popular belief, I will not be crying and eating ice cream in my bedroom. I will not be looking at all of my exes' social media pages and depressed about how none of those relationships worked out. Instead, I will probably cook a nice meal for myself while watching a favorite romance movie. Just because I am currently not in a relationship, doesn't mean I can't celebrate or appreciate the beauty of love.
For all of my singles, don't be sad that you're not spending this Valentine's Day the way you may have hoped to. Even if you have never had a valentine, that is okay too. You can still celebrate with some friends, pick up some ice cream and candy from the store, pick a nice movie to go see or watch on Netflix or bake some brownies. Just because you may be single doesn't mean you have to be alone. It definitely doesn't define you as lonely if you do decide to spend it by yourself like me.
Also, don't plan ahead for next year talking about how you're going to have a date for next Valentine's Day. You never know what will happen a year from now. Regardless of what happens, I am here to tell you that you will be alright. You can have just as much fun as you think your friends are having if they are on a date. Valentine's Day is about the celebration of love and not the material stuff. Anyone can celebrate the beauty of love!
