“Opportunity doesn’t make appointments, you have to be ready when it arrives.”
-Tim Fargo
Of when I am not sure, but at some point we as people decided to buy into the lie that we ourselves get to decide when we are ready for moments to happen. When we are ready to get a job, when we are ready to fall in love, when we are ready to do something we were afraid of before. In all actuality, there is no greater tale.
While it is a very beautiful thought, that we get to decide all these things, G
od never intended it to be this way. Having faith in God includes having faith that he will give us just the right thing, at just the right moment. I refuse to believe the lie that “God will not give us more than we can handle”, when in fact, you can be certain that he will do just that, and there is no way you can “get ready” for that. If we are never challenged to take on anything more than we have previously, we will never grow, advance, or become people of great accomplishment. We as mere human beings foolishly believe the things we want will always be within our grasp. Perhaps that is why we think we have time to be “ready.” If instead we took on the perspective of loss, and of time running out, we may began to realize that opportunities are not things that can be delayed. One of the most terrifying things I could ever think up is planning a life for myself. The same God who created heaven, and earth also created us and created the plan for your life and mine. So who are we to decide when we think it’s the right time for something to happen? To think that I could choose to step out of his plan is far more terrifying than to think I may be taking on something I’m not “ready” for.
The bottom line is that being ready is a lie. God doesn’t ask us if we’re ready, he simply tells us “I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go” Genesis 28:15. So the next time opportunity knocks, pray about it and seek action because just as quickly as opportunity arrives, it can also leave.
