Being The Only Girl In A Guy Friend Group

Being The Only Girl In A Guy Friend Group

I went to college to make the best kind of gal pals. I mean, I was looking for bridesmaid-level BFFs. I was on a mission, and I found a pretty good group of ladies that I want by my side for the foreseeable future. However, I did not know that I would actually find those BFFs in boys. Yeah, three guys became my confidants, and I was the only consistent girl to remain their friend. So over the past six months, I have learned some things about being the only girl in an all boy friend group.

It is okay to be disgusting.

My girl friends may give you a strange look when I belch, but with the boys, I get a "right on," and someone trying to one up with me. We compete. It's great.

You don’t have to talk. Just chill.

No drama, no need to talk about boys (cause that is weird to them, even though you try to bring up their crushes). Just sit down, turn on NFL and chill.

If you are going to talk about football, back it up.

It is also cool to prove them wrong. Then they won't be chill

No joke is off limits.

Literally, the meaner the better sometimes. Even if it is directed at you, you know that your boys love you. You love them too, so you need to be just as edgy.

Being open is almost too easy.

You do not have to worry about people talking behind your back. They just take your truths, and you take theirs. It is easy. No judgements. Everything is understood, and you can trust them on another level.

They will always tell you that you look fine.

Yes, you look like a raccoon is nesting in your hair. Now you look like a model. It doesn't matter. You aren't an object to them. You are their best friend, and you look fine.

Dancing with them only inspires laughter.

Just like how they think you aren't an object, you can't find the attraction either. They are your brothers and anytime you may try and dance with them at a party, you usually cannot stop chuckling, and neither can them. All their other girl friends are fine with it, but you know each other too much.

Don’t freak out near them. They’ll tell you to cool it.

That guy didn't text you back, you and your roommates are fighting, and—who cares, the game is on, now sit down and shut up. And in the next ten minutes and a Domino's order later, you have forgotten how sad you were.

Be chill with their other girl friends.

Remember that you are their number one until they get actual girlfriends. But until then, relax. All these girls Insta-ing and snapping with them are just friends with them. Not related. They won't abandon you because you have blackmail if they try. Also, sometimes you need other girls to listen to any of their masculine problems. It's a nice break when you actually think about it.

You don’t have to try.

You never have to impress anyone, and they don't have to impress you. Makeup is always optional and you usually choose not to wear it. You can be stupid, you can be natural, and you can be your strange self. You can be the monster you have always been.

You will only hear the truth from them.

You want advice? You want the truth even though it isn't pretty? They'll give it to you and enjoy slapping you with reality. And it is appreciated. They make you think. They make you understand. They make you a better person.

You have a punching bag.

You angry? You wanna nudge someone into a bush? You can't smack your girl friends, but your guy friend group beats each other up on the daily. And yes, you are invited to partake.

You have a brother.

Yeah, you have some protection. You have some loyalty. You also have someone who doesn't judge and understand. No, it is not a dog. Your guys best friends help you as much as you help them.

You have an equal.

You aren't a girl. You are accepted. You can be a bro. You can be anything, and they will let you be. It is freedom. You have people who are taller than you but still stand at the same height as you in character. And beat you up. Guy best friends are the best.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
