We all have those moments when our major stresses us out to the point of seemingly no return, and sometimes we just have to laugh the stress away with some good ol' comedy. Being a literature major isn't always a walk in the park, especially when you take a glance at our work load. As the end of my time as a undergrad lit student approaches, I thought I'd sum up how it feels to be in my shoes. Here's what being a literature major feels like to the nine-nine.
1. That moment when you feel death because you have 100 pages to read in the next two days... for each class.
2. When people ask you about the books you're reading.
3. The inevitable "green light" question you get from your friends when your class is studying Gatsby.
4. "But.... what are you going to do with your degree?"
5. "Are you going to be a teacher?"
6. When people get mad because you haven't read "the classics" (even though that's not a prerequisite for being a lit major).
7. Reading into conversations so far you end up analyzing your own argument.
8. Having to lug four anthologies up three or more flights of stairs and feeling the burn.
9. Having to explain what a lit major does besides read books.
10. Knowing (almost) every person in your major because lit people stick together.
11. Telling people you want to be an author and then they ask you why you weren't a writing major instead.
12. "Anyone could be a lit major!"
Sometimes, being a literature major is harder than you think. The nine-nine sums this up well.
