Why Being Involved Is The Best Decision You Can Make

I really don't know where to start with this one.

Personally, I don't understand why so many people choose not to be involved on campus. There are just so many benefits. I understand that college is about getting your degree so classes should come first, however, joining clubs, committees, groups, and sports teams can give you just as much learning opportunity- if not more.

I go to a relatively small school and even still being a part of literally everything is pretty impossible on my campus seeing as there are over 60 clubs and organizations to choose from. This means that there is something available for everyone regardless of their interests. Why not take advantage of that?

The majority of your time in college is probably spent in class or doing homework. Why not spend some time outside of the library, your room, or the classroom? The simple fact is clubs and organizations allow students to get out and gain valuable experiences and make connections with other students. These experiences and relationships that you build with your fellow students are ones that will give you memories to last a life time. When you become involved in the community whether it is on campus or off you gain real world experiences that will set you apart from others. Volunteering every weekend, having workshops to help your fellow students, or hosting guest speakers helps to put your resume above someone else's.

When you have a full schedule there really isn't time to goof off or fool around, this is another reason I think being involved is one of the best decisions I have ever made. The plain fact of the matter is that I have no time to do nothing, even if I wanted to spend my afternoons sleeping I cannot. Having meetings after class and events on the weekends ensures that I get my work done on time and suppresses my desire to procrastinate.

Meeting people who share your interests is another way that joining clubs is pretty great. You may have a major that doesn't allow you to take many classes with other majors. Clubs are a great way to meet people from other majors as well as more people from within your own. The best part of college is definitely the friends that you make and memories that you make together. So get out and meet people!

Having a wide range of clubs helps you to get out of your comfort zone! Not only can you join one you are super interested in, but you can also join one you know nothing about. College is about learning and finding yourself- you'll never know if you don't try!

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"
