What Being In A Christian Sorority Is Really Like In 2019

When Panhellenic sorority life didn't work out, I found an alternative that I love.

So my experience in Pan was not the best, and after leaving my Pan sorority, I was looking for another way to be involved on campus and to make some friends that genuinely cared about me and who positively impact other people's lives. I heard about Sigma Phi Lambda when I was coming into school but I chose not to do it because I didn't think I would fit in. I joined fall 2018, and I fit in just fine. The women of Phi Lamb are a variety of people who are very strong in their faith and people who are still figuring it out - and I was the still figuring it out girl.

I jumped in with both feet because that's just who I am, and I got involved in Homecoming. We have a fall and spring retreat, we have date parties, we have a philanthropy event each semester that benefits World Vision which is an organization that helps third world communities develop into a more functioning community, and we have a chapter every week. The great thing is we never have to dress up for Chapter, and we also have a prayer group each week which goes more in-depth into the devotional that was at Chapter on Sunday. Another great thing about Phi Lamb is the fact that it is SO AFFORDABLE!! The payment I make in a semester was how much it was MONTHLY in a Pan sorority.

We also get to do big-little, and this semester I was able to take two of the best littles ever!! (I'm a little biased.)

The only thing you really need to join Phi Lamb is a desire to find a community in Christ. Phi Lamb has given me so many opportunities and I was given the opportunity of going to the big leadership conference this year and it was life changing and brought my passion for Phi lamb out in full force.

This semester I also decided to give my life to God and got baptized. My sisters in Phi Lamb and a lot of my family watched as I got baptized and they continue to support and love me as I follow God the best way that I can.

Phi Lamb is also involved in multiple different parts of campus activities, we helped CAC raise over $900,000 for the kids this year, and we also participate in Big Event (OU's biggest day of community service) and Relay for Life in the Spring!

So basically, if you want a community of people who love and care about your well being, if you want to be involved on campus, if you want to meet your best friends, you should join an organization that will give you as much as you put into it. For me, that organization is Sigma Phi Lambda.

an image of taylor swift standing center stage surrounded by her backup dancers in elegant peacock esque outfits with a backdrop of clouds and a box rising above the stage the image captures the vibrant aesthetics and energy of her performance during the lover era of her eras tour

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
