Summer. We all love the break from school for about a week. Why? Because the real world sucks. Being at Purdue is like its own world. Summer break is nothing like it was back in the day. Now we have to be all grown up and work or do summer school. Basically, break is fun for about two weeks and then it's time to head back to West Lafayette.
1. Being home for summer means rules. After nine months of freedom, what does that even mean?
2. Well, it means curfews for most kids. Coming and going as you please is not so much an option anymore.
3. Jobs. Well, they said college wasn't cheap and they couldn't have been more right. Everyone needs some sort out summer work to both make money and keep themselves preoccupied.
4. Unpacking everything is one of the worst parts about coming home. You realize you have twice as much stuff as you left with and about double everything. There's no where to put half of it, so it ends up in a messed up pile in the corner. Or, what you like to tell your parents is that it's a pile of organized chaos.
5. Leaving the people you see daily for three months is harder than I thought it would be. They are no longer just a two minute walk away and that isn't fun to get used to.
6. Summer school is somewhat torturous. Actually having to get up a decent amount of time before class so you can drive there is a real pain. Avoid summer school at all costs.
7. Having the same “what is your plan" conversation with extended family. Half the time I don't even know what I am having for dinner let alone my life in three years.
8. Seeing some of the people from high school you wanted to avoid once you left for college. Well, you're back now and the chances of seeing them around town just increased 100%. Goodluck.
Being home really isn't that bad. You get home cooked meals and your own bed. But being home for three months after nine months like that, yeah, that can be bad.
