It's hard to believe that Thanksgiving is right around the corner. It's a time of turkey, pie, stuffing, the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, Black Friday shopping, but most importantly it is a time to be thankful. It's so easy to get caught up in the festivities but it's not always easy to remember what the day is about: being thankful. As in past years, I have a lot to be thankful for.
My Family
They are my biggest supporters and I don't know what I would do without them. They are the only people I know that can literally love me no matter how I may screw up. My parents have worked incredibly hard to get where we are today and I am truly thankful for all of the opportunities they have given me. I am thankful to have such incredible people in my life and for all of the memories we have and will continue to have together.
My Friends
This year has been a truly great one in terms of friendships. I am incredibly thankful for some of the long term friendships I have had, but this year I have made some amazing new friends. I am so thankful for the new people who have come into my life and made my transition to Marist College easier.
My Dog
My dog is literally my life. Cute pictures of her literally get me through the mid-semester slump, and no matter what I do she loves me anyway.
My Education
Despite the endless amounts of papers and hellish group projects, I am so thankful to have the opportunity to pursue a higher education. Not many have this opportunity and I am so grateful to be going to such an amazing school with professors who genuinely care about students.
My Health
Every time I donate blood I am reminded of this. There are so many people out there suffering. People are fighting battles with cancer, and diseases like Alzheimer's, ALS, and HIV/Aids. I am thankful that I am a healthy individual and that I really do not have to worry about any that.
My Travel Experiences
This past year has been amazing. I have been able to travel Europe, seeing 13 countries in total. To be able to see so many historic spots and experience so many different cultures is something I could have only dreamed of as a child. I can honestly say that travel has changed me for the better. Even if I never get the chance to go abroad again, I am incredibly thankful for the memories and friendships I made while abroad.
My Aunt
This is a big one for me. As many of you reading this probably know, my aunt suffered a traumatic brain injury approximately two months ago. I am thankful that she is here today and for the progress she is making. I am thankful for every little step she takes and that she still has her sweet and sunny personality.
Food
I am thankful that I have NEVER had to worry about food. Never once in my life have I gone hungry or had to worry about where my next meal was coming from, but for many people this is everyday life. Even though the dining hall food may be gross, I never had to worry about not being able to afford a meal this year.
This year more than ever has put a lot of things in perspective for me and made me realize just how much I truly have to be thankful for. So count your blessings, and have a Happy Thanksgiving.
