I'm An ESFJ And It's Totally Fine With Me

What does it really mean to be ESFJ?

I recently took the Myers- Brigg Personality Test because I was curious how it would yield. I have taken a Myers-Brigg Test in the past but I didn’t take it seriously and I was in High School so some things have without a doubt changed since that time. When taking the test, I was encouraged to not select neutral as my answer and based on that advice I believe that my results were accurate.

My results:
After taking the 60 question test my results came back and I was pleasantly surprised, they came back as ESFJ or “The Consul”. I am 75% Extraverted which I feel like I am more extroverted than I was in High School, 63% Observant, 87% Feeling, 80% Judging and 56% Turbulent. Even though I had no idea what Turbulent meant (I later learned that it means I’m likely to be self-conscious and a perfectionist) I felt like my results reflect who I am. ESFJ personalities are one of the most common traits with 9-13% of the U.S population having this personality. Regardless of it being one of the most common doesn’t mean it's any less special than other personality types.

The Facts:
After getting my results I did a bit of research because I wanted to understand what it meant to have this type of personality. The website I took the test on had an abundance of information and facts that helped me understand. The first thing I read was that people with ESFJ were popular high school and were the cheerleaders and jocks. While I don’t think I was popular in high school I did cheer for three years so I thought that was funny that it had said that. Consul is said to care more about appearance and social status than anything else, and I don’t think that’s a bad thing. I can be self-absorbed but I think in order to be truly happy people have to.

Just because we can self-absorbed that doesn’t mean we are shallow, with everyone there's more than what meets the eye. ESFJ people take the responsibility to help people and enjoy doing so, they’re constantly there for their friends and family and helping makes them feel good about themselves. If you're promised something by someone that's ESFJ they’re not going to break that promise, they know the value of promises and intend to keep them. ESFJers care about everyone’s feelings and want the whole world to live in harmony. Sadly, we know all too well the world might never live in complete harmony but that doesn’t mean were going to stop caring. We are great communicators and have no problem talking to anyone, which helps in social and work environments.

Our Famous Personality Twins:
The fun part, who are we like? The website I used said our famous counterparts include Steve Harvey (who’s hilarious), Taylor Swift (America’s sweetheart) and Bill Clinton (Former President of the United States). Not only is it swell having the same personality as T-Swift but I that anytime someone has the same personality as a former president is kind of awesome (No matter who he had sexual relations with). I think this shows that ESFJers are universal and can be anything from President to Family Feud Host.

Even though I am proud of my results and find them fitting I’m going to take it with a grain of salt. Just because this is my personality I can’t blame everything on it, I have to take responsibility for my own actions. If I’m mean to someone I can’t displace the blame on being ESFJ because I made the decision to be nasty in the first place.
Personalities test are fun and I recommend for everyone to take one, I would also recommend not to take it too seriously. Just because your personality comes out as something you may not want to be, doesn’t mean it’s the end of the world. You don’t have to conform to anything some dumb test tells you. Just be yourself!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
