It is no secret that I am very fond of my dog, Sage. I wouldn't go as far to say I'm a crazy dog mom, I don't have tattoos of her or anything like that. But she is still a large part of my life, and even though she can be a brat I still love her. Still, here are just a handful of signs that you're more than the average dog parent.
1. You have more photos of your dog than anyone else
It's safe to say I have taken more photos of my dog than selfies, or pictures of the floor when my face isn't presentable. She's everywhere: my phone, my laptop, the two physical picture frames I own, you name it.
2. They are your phone background
This photo of her has beat out my best friends, significant others, and family members for almost two years now.
3. You talk to them in a baby voice
It doesn't matter how old they are, you will always talk to them like you would talk to a human baby. Because they are your baby.
4. You have conversations with them, in that baby voice
Your dog probably only knows a handful of words, most of them food-related, but that doesn't matter. Sometimes it's nice to have a one sided conversation about who is a good boy and who isn't.
5. You love talking about them when they were a baby
Puppyhood is the best time, it almost makes up for the times when they got big enough to eat your sandwich off the counter.
6. You like people who remember details about your dog
You remember her name? Point for you. You remember what kind of dog she is? Another point. You remember she prefers to patrol the backyard for bunnies after she's had her breakfast? Bonus points all around.
7. When you're homesick, it means you miss THEM
A large portion of the reason I go home is to see her, sorry not sorry. She may have forgotten I was gone until she sees me again, but she gives a great furry welcome.
8. You give them gifts for all major holidays
I sent her a pink chew toy for Valentine's Day this year, what did you send your pet?
9. Their birthday is on your phone calendar
This one should be a given. I'm not crazy enough to spend money to celebrate an event she is completely unaware of, but I give her extra love and attention (and bacon) on her birthday.
10. They are a member of your family, and should be treated as such
I can make fun of my brothers all I want, but no one else is allowed to. The same way I can call my dog a brat all day long, but no one else can say a word against her. And, she is included in family photos if she's willing to sit still long enough.
