Are you happy with where you are in life? More importantly, are you happy with yourself? Next Friday, I will be 16-years-old and I have found that already at such a young age, I am able to be content with my life. Now, I’m not saying that every day is perfect and nothing goes wrong. I’m not saying that I have zero flaws, or that there is nothing I would change about myself. What I am saying, is that I am content with where I am at this point, and time in my life.
I have always felt like I was different. Not in the, “I’m not like the other girls” way, but as though I didn’t really fit in. Ever since junior high, when I started to find things I enjoy and new hobbies, I began to feel bad about myself. I would sit at home and wonder why no one wanted to be friends with me, or why I didn’t fit in. I’d see all of these people, who had supposedly found their lifelong best friends, and I’d think of ways to change, just to impress everyone else. But guess what? I’m sitting here, almost four years later, and I still haven’t found my best friend. And you know what’s even better? I’m 100 percent okay with that!
What has helped me is finding things that I enjoy. I love to challenge myself, so along the way I have picked up new hobbies and I have met amazing people. Some of the things I love to do include crocheting, showing horses, and obviously writing! I know those are a bit random, but I challenge you to find things you enjoy. Crocheting was something I have always wanted to do and when the opportunity came up, I learned how! Life is all about creating yourself. You need to find things you enjoy and find what you don’t. Take time for yourself and you’re on the road to being content with who you are.
I want to mention that having friends and being entertained 24/7 is totally NOT a bad thing! If you are one of those people, go you! But even if you have 20 BFF’s or your parents are your only friends, (like me), make sure to always find time for yourself.
Even though going out with your friends every weekend is so much fun, it is incredibly healthy to spend a day with yourself. There is absolutely nothing wrong with being independent. The sooner you can learn how to do so, the better off you are. The rest of your life you will have to depend on yourself. After all, you are your own best friend. So grab your laptop, some earbuds, head over to your local coffee shop, and take a day for yourself, (this is what I am currently doing :) ).
