As I approach the end of my senior year and look onto my last year at school, I remember the thoughts that went through my mind. I remember the worries I had and the doubts of completing my degree.
People I graduated with were done school before I was, and my doubts just continued to grow. I was nervous I was doing something wrong, or that I wouldn’t finish in general. There were times giving up seemed easier than continuing.
Still, now I have my doubts. Like most majors, there are always those extra classes you need to take or the impossible tests you thought you were done with. Those bring more obstacles to getting that one piece of paper that defines your life. That single paper determines what kind of jobs you get and what kind of life you’ll have.
It’s crazy to think one wrong turn can put your entire life on hold.
For education, you have to pass a test called the Praxis. For some, it’s easy; you pass it right away. For me, it took me four times until I passed. For others, it takes more. Every time you fail or reach just under, it’s a punch to the face. It takes away the confidence you once had.
I’m telling you, don’t.
Do not ever be discouraged that you can’t be a teacher because you can’t pass a test.
One wrong grade and your whole college career is pushed back. Instead of four years, now it's five. Maybe it was an impossible class, or maybe you didn’t work as hard as you should have. Now, you're doubting yourself again and losing the confidence in yourself to be who you’ve always wanted to be.
I’m telling you, it’s hard now, but you’ll get back on track and be the most amazing teacher, psychologist, lawyer, whatever it is you want to be.
College is hard and sometimes it seems like it’ll take forever, but it’s not impossible. Remember to keep your head up high and do your best. There is a reason for why everything happens.
Everything is just another learning experience. You’re in college for what the change you want to be and the difference you want to make. Don’t give up when it gets too hard; persevere and finish strong.
If, at first, you don’t succeed, try, try again.
