Being A Changemaker

We all have it in us.

Regardless of what so many have to say about our generation, Millennials thrive to be change makers. With all the responsibility assigned from such a young age up through adulthood, however, a drive for change is easily tossed onto the back burner.

We are known as the job hopping generation, we know what we want and what we don't. And if we want something different, we get it. This seems like terrible indecisiveness, but this also contributes to our ability to get many things done -- have several impacts in our lifetime.

So what's the first step to following our passions and fulfilling our desires to make the world a better place?

A term you may or may not be familiar with is social entrepreneurship. By definition, this refers to one's willingness to take on risks to create a positive change in the world.

The first step to achieving your goals is to define them. What do you see about the world that you want to change? What is something you are extremely passionate about? The problem here is that most of us are interested or passionate about several things, and every single one of them is worth pursuing. However, in order to make a difference, at least at the beginning of your social entrepreneurial career, you need to be specific in your plans.

Next, you need to make a plan. This includes, what is going to make your idea stand out from all the rest? What makes it worth your time to pursue? And then, what specific steps are you going to take to do it? It's easy to see the big picture, and where you eventually want to end up, but now you need to sit down and make a list.

Once you have your plans, you need to start implementing them. What specific steps do you need to take to achieve your goals? Don't think about the money yet, don't necessarily think about what's going to get in the way of your plan, just go out and do. Because otherwise you will talk yourself out of it.

I know you're thinking, how am I supposed to carry out a huge project with no money? Well from the strong and wise Mama Shoe of the Highland Park Project in Detroit, Michigan, “Worry about the money later.”

You see, the thing that makes millennials so great, is we keep pushing and pushing, and we use our “free” attitudes to get us where we want to be. When you want something bad enough, you will find a way. So go out and do, worry about the money later.

Don't let your good ideas go to waste. If you feel that you're a changemaker, be a changemaker.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
