Being a caregiver is quite possibly the worst and the best occupation a person could have.
You wake up at what seems like ungodly hours of the morning to go to work. You're there for an outrageous number of hours, but you never complain.
Being a caregiver is not the kind of job for just any person. When you're a caregiver you not only count and administer medication, you also change "briefs" (adult diapers), give showers and sponge baths, prepare breakfast, snack, lunch, another snack, and dinner, do in-home and community activities, and deal with being hit, spit at, kicked, and groped.
As horrible as this job sounds with my description, it really is probably the best job you could have. It takes a special kind of person to be able to deal with the above stated job tasks, but we do it with a smile. We smile because we grow to know and love our clients/residents as if they were our own parents/grandparents. You never know what your day is going to hold, and every single day at work is different, but the people you work for really appreciate the hard work you put in to take care of them.
Not many people would like the idea of putting in 40-60+ hours a week "wiping butts", but I can honestly say that I wouldn't want to spend my time any other way. Being a caregiver gives you a feeling of great pride and accomplishment knowing that you're improving the lives of the people you work for, and you are making them feel as "normal" as possible.
I'm a caregiver, I "wipe butts" for a living, but I love my job and I wouldn't have it any other way
