College is that crazy, exciting, new time in your life that also begins to become busy. You have campus events, you still haven't reached your service hours, class, loads of homework and a million other things to do before the sun goes down every night.
On Mondays, you have chapter for your sorority. On Tuesdays, you have to work a table for service hours. Wednesdays, you want to go see that movie they are playing on campus. On Thursdays, you made plans with your friends and Fridays are your days to go out, and if you don't get to go out on Friday, there's always Saturday. But what about Sundays? For college students, it means a day of rest. We study, do laundry and catch up on our sleep that we have lost from the past week. But somewhere in the midst of all these things you are doing, you forget about one thing: Christ. You have suddenly abandoned that normal routine of going to church on Sundays as if Christ is that old friend from high school that you could just catch up with later.
Instead, Christ is more like that pet at home that you left behind. The second you return home from being away at school, he showers you with love and affection. But while you're away, he thinks about you and longs to see you again. A lot like our relationship Christ. When we draw near to Him and have that strong relationship with Him, nothing can stand in our way. But when you are distant from Him, you start to feel lost and like you can't find your way in this world.
When tackling your weekly and even daily tasks, you can become overwhelmed. You feel like you can't catch a breath and that you have all the weight in the world on your shoulders. Just like your pet at home, Christ is longing for you to run to Him. He wants you to build that firm foundation. He wants you to simply just talk to Him. Talk to Him about your day. What you did that day, how that day went, and even though He already knows, He likes to hear all these things.
Don't put your faith on pause just because you walked through those pearly gates of college. Instead, let that time in your life be the time that your faith is the strongest. Let people on campus see the light of Christ as you walk past them. Make people wonder why you are the way you are. Make them question what it is that makes you so happy. Be that light unto the world.
