Being At Peace With The World

The first step is loving yourself.

We all have our own kind of peace in our lives. Some of us find this peace in people and others find it in places. We all might have our own definitions of peace, but we're all searching for it. You see, I believe that the most significant part of being at peace with the world is being at peace with yourself. Once we find this inner peace we quickly have our eyes opened to how great this life of ours really is.

Society generally has a funny way of looking at things. It had a tendency of looking for the negative rather than the positive. Often times it discourages people from the morals and values that were once cherished by most people in society. It has taught us to be judgmental towards others and harsh towards ourselves. It has given us unrealistic expectations and unattainable goals throughout life. We crave control and cringe when someone else has authority over us.

But if you learn how to be at peace with yourself, the world and its chaos quickly changes. Knowing who you are and who you want to be gives you a different outlook on life, an outlook vastly different from the one society generally gives us.

Rather than searching for the negative, begin to point out the positive. Remember your manners and respect the people that surround you (even if you don't think they deserve your respect). Learn to lift people up rather than putting people down and rather than talking bad about people, start having genuine conversations with others. When you look in the mirror appreciate how unique and valuable life is. Love yourself and others up at all times. Set realistic goals, but don't be afraid to learn from your failures. And when you feel like you've lost all control of life, sit back and let life run its own route.

You see, all of these things become easier the second that we change our mindset. As soon as we remind ourselves of the changes we need to make in our everyday life we discover how quickly it becomes a habit. I know it's much easier said than done, but once we fall in love with ourselves the rest of the world seems to fall in place.

So figure out who you want to be. Give yourself goals and be determined to reach them. Do the right thing because it takes one thing to make someone's day. Let go of your unrealistic expectations and hold on to the goals you know you can achieve. Forgive others, forgive yourself. Get rid of your negative thoughts and being to appreciate life for all that it has to offer.

When you begin to love yourself you find peace with the world and with this mess of a life quickly becomes or favorite memories and our greatest adventure.

18 Things I Want To Do Now That I'm 18

I'm technically an adult, so I'm legally required to live a little, right?

For the entirety of my high school career, I was always seen as the goody-two-shoes. I never got in trouble with a teacher, I kept stellar grades, and when I wasn't doing extracurricular activities, I was at home studying. Even when I did go out, it was usually with a bunch of fellow band geeks. The night would end before 11:00 PM and the only controversial activity would be a fight based on who unfairly won a round of Apples-to-Apples when someone else clearly had a better card (I promise I'm not still holding a grudge).

Now that I'm officially an adult, I want to pursue some new things. I want to experience life in a way that I never allowed myself to do prior to entering college. These are the years that I'm supposed to embark on a journey of self-discovery, so what better way to do that than to create a bucket list?
