Being An Old Soul, As Told By Ellie Kemper

Being an old soul can be pretty tough when you're in college. Here are 11 experiences related to being an old soul, as told by Ellie Kemper.

1. When you have no idea how to use the young, hip lingo all the people your age are using.

2. When you make references to old TV shows and movies that nobody else your age knows about.

3. When you make an effort to go out with people, but have no idea how to act because you were always too mature for things like "bar hopping" and "turning up."

4. When you're so out of touch with people your age and their concept of fun, that this is your idea of going wild and crazy during a night out with friends.

5. When you come home from a party feeling like a loser because relating to people your age is so hard.

6. When you aren't up on the latest youth fashion trends.

7. When you just want to tell your peers to be quiet with all their childish nonsense.

8. When you use your sophisticated sense of humor to think of the best comebacks for all the haters out there.

9. When you try to convince people that you are cool and that you don't live like an old lady.

10. When another young person makes a joke that flies right over your head.

11. When you make the best decision of your life: to forget about what other people think and just be you.

However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.
