One thing I used to never be able to stand was parents constantly posting pictures of their babies on Facebook. First of all, I thought they were all kind of ugly (sorry), and second of all, I would always think that no one besides the parent even cared about the kid so why keep posting all these pictures?
Then my nieces were born.
Regardless of the fact that they are literally the two prettiest humans I have ever seen (sorry it's true I don't make the rules), I now totally get the whole craze of showing everyone who has a pair of eyeballs a picture of your pride and joy.
I've only been able to call myself an aunt for about two and a half years, though with twin nieces that's felt like a lot longer, but I can positively say that it has changed my life completely. Not only do I get to watch these tiny humans grow and change every day, but I get to have an impact on them, and it's seriously so amazing.
Now I know the theme song to every children's show, carry doll clothes around in my purse wherever I go, and sing along to "Let it Go" more often than I am willing to admit. And honestly, I wouldn't trade any of it for the world.
I can only hope that one day when they're a little older I can be the aunt they call when they need a fun break from their parents and are looking for an adventure. Because that's what aunts do: you get to be the fun person that spoils your niece/nephew and with minimal diaper changing involved. Name something better; I'll wait.
So, to Vivan and Lex, thanks for being born. I love you.
