Even though Valentine's Day is a made up holiday created by Hallmark to scam you out of money, being alone on the holiday's can be a rough time. Not that we are bitter or anything. While your friends are all out, loving on their significant other's, you'll be in bed hugging a bottle of merlot and binge watching the episodes of "New Girl" where Nick and Jess fall and love. Not to worry, they all had their struggles with love too. So while you sit in your bed wallowing in self-pity, think about being alone on Valentine's Day as told by the cast of "New Girl."

1. Waking up alone on Valentine's Day realizing that you will be alone all day is the icing on the cake.

2. When your mom asks you what your plans for Valentine's Day are.

3. When your friends who have a significant other tell you that they'd love to have a "Galentine's Day" with you the next day.

As if that makes up for it.

4. You start to realize that you might be the only person you have to rely on for attention so you decide to love yourself.

5. The awkward moment when you realize that the entire week before Valentine's Day you became extremely desperate in hopes of finding true love.

6. After day spending the last couple of months questioning why you can't find someone to love you, you realize that maybe it's you.

7. You think that maybe throwing a pity party would be great because it's all about your feelings today.

8. But instead of wallowing in self pity, maybe you decide to go out because...

9. When another friend who now has a significant other tries to tell you that she knows how you are feeling because last year she was single on Valentine's Day.

10. When you try going to that anti-Valentine's Day party and the first person you see becomes your new prey.

11. But then you remember that's a terrible idea because you are a hopeless romantic on a quest for love and fate and alcohol will not mitigate your pain.

12. You lay in bed snuggled between two body pillows and realize you've hit rock bottom.

13. As you scroll through Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, you see everyone's cute couple posts about how much they love each other and what their significant other got them for Valentine's Day.

14. When you finally convince yourself that you are the prize and that it's everyone else who can't see your inner beauty.

15. But at the end of the day, it is all fine because Valentine's Day sucks and is a made up Hallmark Holiday. *bitter sobs*

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
