Whenever I am going somewhere, I prefer not to look at my cell phone. I rather look at the window and see what is out there. There are more beautiful and beneficial things to look at than just the screen of my cell phone. There are some reasons why.
1. Navigate the way
There will be times when you have to go to a specific area like a street, building, etc. It is good to give yourself a sense of direction so that on the actual day when you have to go to a specific area, you will automatically know where to go. Looking for the direction on the day of will waste time and prevents your capability in knowing where to go.
One good example is Rutgers University. You have to know the way because it is a big college. You also will have to venture to different campuses because of classes, exams, and other purposes as well. The one campus that everyone has to go to is College Avenue because that is the only place where you have to buy your textbooks for class. If you do not know the way, you cannot get your textbook. You will end up buying your textbooks online and have a hard time getting rid of them in the very end.
2. Prevent an accident
Two summers ago, I had to go to a friend's house. After getting out of ShopRite, she texted me to see if I was on the way. I was sitting in the front with my mother. She was driving and I thought that I should help her look at the road. Luckily, I did not text back my friend at that time because a car from a parking lot almost hit us when we were leaving ShopRite. I told my mother and she made a quick turn to avoid getting hit. She was relieved that the car did not hit us otherwise we would be in big trouble. I was relieved that we were safe and I was going to arrive in time for my friend.
3. Introduce a new place
Knowing the way can help someone if you choose to guide them. My sister and I have to go to Douglass for a farm trip with the environmental science class. She did not know how to navigate Douglass. Luckily, I had a class at Douglass and I knew the way since I was looking at the campus while riding on the bus. I guided her and we were able to reach the destination. Without me, my sister would have it tough.
Another incident recently was when my mother wanted to find a fun place for my aunt to go to. My aunt traveled from Malaysia to New Jersey for a visit. I thought of the lake at Red Oak Lane because I had to attend a class at Douglass and she could take pictures there while waiting for me to finish class. It was very successful because my aunt took a lot of pictures and had fun in that area. My mother was grateful that I knew about the lake. I responded by saying that you have to know the way because you never know when you have to go there. From that incident forward, knowing the way can also be helpful in going on vacation and fun places.
No matter how long the ride is, just look at the window and see the world. You never know what you will find.
