HOW TO HAVE A PERSONAL BRAND

56
Behind The Scenes of The Gram

Having a personal brand is just as it sounds; personal.

You are the creator of the content that you want your followers to see. There is millions of things in the world to post about, and there are trillions of things you can choose to be. Technology has given us the opportunity to create whatever we want, however we want.

First, and foremost, being YOU is the best option when creating a personal brand. If you want to post about food and food only; DO IT. Social media gives you a chance to build your own image, so build YOURS. I have a deep appreciation for those who utilize their social media for the purpose of showing others who they truly are.

I have been building my social media presence since I was in sixth grade (sorry mom, yes I got a facebook before you knew). My posts consist of personal things in my life such as; friends, family, travel, and of course my man!! (both, my cat Charlie and Alex)

What I have found is that all people want to do while scrolling is relate to the human on the screen. This is why in campaigns or ads you see, there is more likely to be people in the picture than words just blurting out information at you.

For example, you are scrolling through instagram, and you see a post about this new line of shoes for a random brand you have probably never heard of. The picture has a group of people in a field, laughing, hugging, and all wearing the same shoes. The picture is bright, and colorful, and probably has a very appealing aesthetic.

Your brain is automatically more susceptible to want to ask questions like; why are the smiling? OMG they are all wearing the same shoes, huh? Oh, that boy/girl is super cute. Wait, what am I even looking at? And then in that moment you decide to click on the profile, and there you are scrolling through a profile of a random shoe brand YOU NEVER would have even thought about looking at if it were not for the picture.

Now, why in the heck am I telling you that? So, that you yourself can have a successful personal brand just like the random shoe people! This will not happen overnight, you will not gain 500,000 followers after deciding you're going to make your instagram the best thing this world has ever seen. Let's be real, we all decided going to the gym was going to be our New Year's resolution... enough said.

First, figure out what you want to post, and who you are! H A V E F U N !! I cannot stress this enough, this is not your REAL life this is a depiction of YOUR life. Next, take tons of pictures! I absolutely love pictures, each picture is a small little memory you have for forever! (as long as you're all updated and have storage in the cloud) Then, LET THE EDITING BEGIN! Throw on a preset, or if you're feeling risky, no filter. FINALLY, be satisfied with your work, and post away!

Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, ect. All of these platforms are solely for the purpose of showing others who you are, and why. Happy posting people!!

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.

"I don't want to do things. I want to do not things."

Aubrey Plaza is one of my favorite humans in Hollywood. She's honest, blunt, unapologetic, and hilarious. I just started my sophomore year of college, and found that some of her best moments can accurately describe the start of the school year.

1. When your advisor tells you that you should declare a major soon.

2. Seeing the lost and confused freshmen and remembering that was you a short year ago, and now being grateful you know the ins and outs of the campus.

3. Going to the involvement fair to sign up for more clubs knowing that you are already too involved.

4. When you actually do the reading required for the first class.

5. Seeing your friends for the first time since last semester.

6. When you're already drowning in homework during syllabus week.

7. Realizing you don't have the same excitement for classes as you did as a freshman.

8. Going home and seeing people from high school gets weirder the older you get.
