Behind The Mask

A sad tale of a girl who keeps it positive on the outside, but is broken down within.

Behind The Mask
Jo Anne Snover

Most stories about a girl end in a fairy tale. Most story tales end with the girl falling in love, getting married and having a beautiful child. This one however isn't as chipper as those.

The girl here is sad. She feels like a failure, and maybe that's the way it is to be written. Maybe her story will show us that being happy can always be a mask.

The girl isn't always sad. She has quite a bit to be proud of. She has loving friends whom love her dearly. They enjoy her company and can handle her sass.

Not only does she have friends, she has a loving family who supports her. They always have her back and trust she will make the right decisions.

She works hard at being the best she can be.

Alone in her head is the breeding grounds for her sadness.

She's full of envy of those who are in love. She can't handle the fact that she is alone. This often leads her to pick apart herself as a whole. She questions what is wrong with her. Obviously she wasn't meant to find love. She dwells on the fact that in a room full of men she is practically ignored. She feels as though she is t worthy of love

The thoughts of being unattractive and disgust fill her brain. She feels broken.

Along with her crippling need to be in love, she has the pain of feeling of being washed up. The girl has many years left to get it together, yet she sees no end goal in sight. She worried that's she'll never amount to anything, that fear alone kills her inside. She feels lazy, pathetic, and most of all a let down.

She worries that she'll never be able to give back to the loving parents who gave her their all.

This story is sad, depressing, and upsetting. The worst part is, that this isn't just about one girl. There are millions of women who feel this way. Most ladies on this planet want love. They crave it. We a fed from childhood, that we are nothing without the love of another. We are force fed into becoming hopeless romantics.

We take life to literal, and rip ourselves apart. We tear down the good walls we built, to make room for the worst walls.

Walls built on sadness and hurt are the hardest to rip down, yet they are the easiest to build.

If you take anything from this ladies, let it be this:

You are a beautiful and amazing human. You will overcome. No, it may not be tomorrow, but if you try it will.

We all fight battles that we feel we will never win, that's just life. With a good support system and a new outlook on life we can overcome.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
