Ah, feelings. They turn our lives into trainwrecks and suddenly we become overdramatic, clingy and downright obsessive. How many times have you had seven meltdowns in a row because a boy hasn't answered your text or had anxiety because all of the outfits you've tried on don't look good and you're convinced you're just too ugly to wear them? Yep, we've all been there and it's due to this disgusting thing called feelings. We're probably better off without them, tbh. But now you're probably wondering, "how does one just get rid of feelings?" I'm here to tell you it's very possible and a lot easier than you think. I've mastered the whole "no feelings" thing and you can too.

Here's a beginner's guide to not having feelings:

1. Don't be dependent on anyone.

You should always be in control of your day-to-day life. Have full confidence in doing things alone because you won't always have people to hold your hand when things get tough. Remember you're your own person and whether you have a boyfriend, girlfriend, best friend, etc. who you talk to every day and go to for all life problems, be careful how emotionally attached you get. As sad as it may sound, relationships come and go and you are capable of being strong without them.

2. Take everything lightly.

It may sound cliche, but life is way too short to get upset about little things that won't matter a few days from now. Whether it's talking to a cute boy for the first time or getting in a fight with your best friend, don't blow it out of proportion. It's better to be calm and cool about it than to let your feelings overtake the situation. Be rational and for your own sake, hold back the waterworks. Most things you will get over by the morning so it's not worth your time or energy to freak out about.

3. Don't overthink things.

Feelings and overthinking go hand in hand. Your emotions can make you question everything and as a result, drive you crazy for no reason. If a situation is out of your control, then stop thinking about it. It's as simple as that. Unless you're ready to take action, you're just letting your feelings mess with your head.

4. Don't let emotions cloud your judgment.

We've all been there, letting our emotions make decisions for us. It's as common as being sad so you go out to buy junk food or something more serious like settling for less than you deserve because you like so-and-so so much. If you're angry at someone, don't send them a nasty text; work it out. And if you're in a shitty relationship, stand up for yourself or get out of it. You have to put your feelings aside and do what's best for you.

5. Be unbreakable.

If you don't let feelings take over your life, then you can't get hurt. That means no crying over boys who aren't worth it or being too vulnerable around others. Of course, your friends and family will always be there for you in your toughest moments and it's expected that you'll let your guard down, but sometimes a little discipline with your emotions can help you in the long run. You have that unemotional badass somewhere in you, you just have to find it.

No feelings, no problems.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
