'Me Before You:' A Movie Review
Me Before You - X Ambassadors "Unsteady" (Erich Lee Gravity Remix)

This week I went to the movie theater and saw the film "Me Before You." This film was heart-achingly beautiful and did the book justice. This film, based off of the book of the same title by Jojo Moyes, is about Lou Clark getting a job to take care of a young paraplegic man named Will Trainor. Lou befriends the man, and gets him to go out of the house, a place in which he has confined himself, to show him there is a lot to live for. She eventually falls in love with him, but due to his selfish choices, they tragically cannot be together.

As an avid reader, I am always on the hunt for a new book. When I saw the trailer for the film, I was intrigued with the story and decided to read the book. I absolutely loved it and since then, I have read other books by the author, Jojo Moyes. When the film came to theaters, I was excited to go see it, but I was worried that the movie was not going to be as good as the book and the producers would take too many creative liberties with it. I was quite happy they stayed true to the book and thoroughly enjoyed the film.

This movie, starring Emilia Clarke and Sam Claflin, was beautiful. Their chemistry onscreen matched their chemistry in the book. I loved their witty banter that led to their loving relationship. The casting was excellent and the actors portrayed their characters perfectly. Lou’s whimsical outfits were just like they were in the book, down to the bumble bee tights! It was a lovely British film.

This film deals with heavy issues like unemployment, living with disabilities, doctor assisted suicide, and loving someone who won’t be with you even though they love you. I liked the fact that the film did not politicize doctor assisted suicide and did not skirt around the selfishness of it. They showcased both opinions of this controversial moral issue, like it is portrayed in the book. Contrary to popular belief, they did not romanticize suicide in the least; they showed its selfishness and the heartbreak of those left behind to deal with the aftermath. Moyes even wrote a sequel to "Me Before You," titled "After You," which is the story of Lou dealing with life after losing Will.

This British film was excellent! I give it five stars. It was a wonderful film and watching it was a very enjoyable experience. I absolutely loved it! I recommend this film to romance fans and those who enjoy witty dialogue in British accents. This memorable story will stick with you long after the credits roll; I know it has with me. Don’t forget to bring tissues with you when you go to see this tearjerker of a love story. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. Even if this is not your usual genre of movies, you should take a chance and see it. You won’t be sorry that you did.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
