Before I Take The Cheer Mat One Last Time
Odyssey

Before I take the mat one last time, I will revive my passion.

I promise to remember why I started this journey. I will recall the very moment that I fell in love with cheerleading in the first place, why I have refused to give up and why I continue to choose this team every single day.

I will promise to never lose sight of the wonderful journey that brought us this far. I will cherish the beautiful moments, learn from the catastrophic and commit to a wonderful finish.

Before I take the mat one last time, I will recognize those around me.

Before I take the floor, I will remember the small army of cheerleaders surrounding me. I will be thankful for every teammate who has refused to give up on me. I will believe in them as much as they believe in me. I will trust their judgement, have faith in their ability to hit this routine and provide them with endless support.

I will talk to my teammates. I will continue to pick them up when they fall and I will be there for them until the very end. I will never blame a teammate and I will never leave a teammate behind.

We are a family. I promise to continue building our trust, creating wonderful memories together and standing beside one another.

Before I take the mat one last time, I will forgive myself.

I promise to not carry any burden from my past with me into competition. I cannot correct my mistakes from practices or competitions that have already happened. I cannot correct the deductions I have previously caused or the failures I have already been a part of.

I choose to forget these faults and move forward with a clear mind. I will think positively, accept the past and seize the opportunities ahead.

Before I take the mat one last time, I will commit.

No matter what, when the moment arrives, I will be nervous. I will have butterflies in my stomach and shaky hands and an accelerating heartbeat. But however nervous I get, I promise to believe in myself and execute my skills the best of my ability. I promise to let go of fear. I refuse to talk myself out of being successful. I will give this routine my greatest effort despite how afraid or exhausted I may become.

Before I take the mat one last time, I will trust my leaders.

I may not like every change that has been made or that will be made. I may be enraged or disappointed or confused about a decision. Even if I don’t understand the reasoning or I don’t agree with the outcome, I promise to trust the knowledge of my coaches, gym owners and choreographers. I promise to respect their decisions, have confidence in their judgement and help bring their visions to life.

Before I take the mat one last time, I will thank the ones in the crowd cheering us on.

Before I head to warm-ups, I will hug my parents extra tight and I will thank them for everything they do. I will let them know that I appreciate them, that we all appreciate them cheering us on. I will remind them how important they are to our success. I will make sure they understand that they are a critical piece of this cheer family and how I cannot thank them enough for all they do for this team.

Before I take the mat one last time, I will have faith.

I promise to keep this dream alive, doing everything in my power to make us successful. I promise to believe in possibilities and see the potential of this team. I promise to remain confident yet humble. I will have hope and I will do my best to help the team reach beyond the expectations we have set for ourselves.

Most importantly, I promise to never give up and to fight for everything we have worked so hard for this season. I promise to help make our dream become a reality.

As I take the floor for the last time this season, I promise to be a champion teammate.

an image of taylor swift standing center stage surrounded by her backup dancers in elegant peacock esque outfits with a backdrop of clouds and a box rising above the stage the image captures the vibrant aesthetics and energy of her performance during the lover era of her eras tour

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
