As a child, I never thought I would be like my Mom. Growing up, my Mom and I had a lot of differences. My Mom always dresses up and does her hair and makeup. I always thought that was too much. When I was a teenager, my favorite thing to wear was sweatpants and you'd be lucky if my hair was done.
My Mom strives for a clean house every day. She makes sure the house is nice and clean before she goes to bed. Even if I had just a notebook sitting in the living room, she would ask me to put it away.
My Mom worked so much when I was growing up. As a child, I didn't understand why. If Dad was working a good job, why did Mom have to work so much too?
I always wondered why we had to buy everything on sale. My Mom never pays full price for anything. She always either has coupons or catches a sale.
There were so many things I didn't understand about my Mom when I was younger. Now that I'm older, I realize I'm becoming more and more like her.
When I get dressed in the morning, I try to look as presentable as I can. I may not dress as fancy as my Mom but I try to look nice. I always hear my Mom in my head say, "Dress nice, feel nice" and this is definitely a quote I live by.
I strive for a clean house like my Mom does. Ever since I moved out, I keep my place very clean. I sweep at least a few times a week and make sure the dishes are done before I go to bed. I even wipe my dog's feet before she comes in the house.
I work as much as I can. I work part-time during the school year and full time during breaks. I realized my Mom didn't care if my Dad's wages could support her, she just wanted to be independent and have money of her own. I thank her for my strong work ethic.
When I go shopping, I buy everything on sale like my Mom does. Once I started paying for things with my own money, I realized the beauty of sales and coupons. From groceries to clothes, I will buy it on sale.
These are just a few examples of how I'm becoming my Mom. Now that I'm older, I realize how much she taught me.
