Becoming "Conscious" Of Broods
MetroLyrics

At exactly midnight on June 24, 2016, the brother and sister duo called “Broods” released their second album titled “Conscious,” and let me tell you, it’s worth a million listens and then some. For being a person that isn’t as fond of the pop genre in music, Broods’ new album is lyrically alluring from start to finish. Broods puts their own twist on the indie-pop genre beginning with their brother/sister bond from the beginning and adding in the production of genius minds such as Lorde and Tove Lo. Each song is comprised with the lead vocals of Georgia Nott in addition to the multi-instrumental talents, along with back-up vocals of older brother Caleb Nott.

Before I get into mentioning some of my favorite songs of theirs, let me list off a few more things to love about this group. For starters, the group has developed a fan base from all over the world starting with their home in New Zealand. Their popularity has increased especially in the US after wrapping up a tour with Ellie Goulding throughout the month of April. On top of all of this, they can be found featured in other songs such as Troye Sivan’s “EASE” and Jarryd James’ new single “1000x.”

So if this still isn’t enough to convince you to check out their music, let me give you some of my favorite songs by Broods starting with their newest album leading to their self-titled EP, Broods.

"Heartlines"
(Album: Conscious)

“We could jump the statelines/I don't wanna always play nice/But I wanna feel your heartlines/I wanna feel your heart”

Remember me mentioning that Broods adds the production of genius minds? Remember how I mentioned that one of those minds belongs to Lorde? Let me introduce you to my favorite song off of Conscious called “Heartlines.” The queen of pop herself, Lorde helped co-write Heartlines with the group and shared the excitement when the single was released.

"Freak of Nature" (feat. Tove Lo)
(Album: Conscious)

Loving life turned me insane/And maybe it's beautiful/Maybe it's beautiful/Freak of mother, nature's game/I could blame her for my brain”

Freak of Nature has become one of my favorite songs lyrically leaving such an enticing message behind each word. What’s more, Tove Lo’s vocals paired with the powerful instruments in this song tie together so perfectly creating such an amazing song.

"Full Blown Love"
(Album: Conscious)

“We drive into the night, away from the life/Bringing us down, oh/We try keeping it light/But we can't deny, we already know, oh/This is full blown love”

If you’re looking for one of the happiest, dance-inducing, bubbliest songs off of their new album, I present to you: Full Blown Love. As someone with a thousand opinions on the idea of love, this song will make anyone want to fall in love. Or maybe just have a dance party.

"Conscious"
(Album: Conscious)

“When I come alive, such a pretty light/I can be beautiful, I can be right/I can hold my own when I feel at home/I can be tender, I can be kind”

If I were forced to pick a song I could relate so well or a song I’d pick as an anthem, it would be a tie between Conscious and Freak of Nature. Conscious is one of those songs where I want to share every lyric to the world as a way of saying “this is me in a nutshell for a song.” What’s more, I think this song is a perfect way to wrap up the album altogether, to sum up every lyric written and to go out with such a bang.

"Mother & Father"
(Album: Evergreen)

“I don’t want to wake up lonely/I don’t want to just be fine/I don't want to keep on hoping/Forget what I have in mind”

"Mother & Father" is one of my all-time favorite songs from Broods as a whole. The message behind the lyrics resonates a lot as a 21-year-old out on her own in the world. Not to mention, Georgia’s vocals and dancing in the music video is so powerfully put together (and resembles that of Lorde.)

"Superstar"
(Album: Evergreen)

“You've been looking for more, I've been over my head/You've been filling up spaces, I'm working too much/(I, I, I)/It's the life we're living now/(I, I, I)/And it's beautiful, somehow”

"Superstar," aka: the first song that had me hooked on Broods. I’d like to thank one of my many Pandora radio stations for pulling this song up and introducing me to the group that is Broods. This song is very cheery with a message that is nothing short of hopeful and reminiscent.

"Coattails"
(EP: Broods)

“I can't remember and I can't concentrate/But I can take a note to burn the ink/A hit between the eyes/And if souls are meant to be sold/And if hands are only to hold/Then I can't do what I'm told”

These lyrics alone are something that sets this song as another favorite of mine, just like the rest of the songs mentioned above. Coattails is less of a “dance-inducing” kind of song but remains positive, one to add to the playlist you use in the car with your windows down.

Other favorites: "Are You Home," "All of Your Glory," "Recovery," "Everytime," "L.A.F.," "Never Gonna Change," "Sober," "Evergreen," "Four Walls," "Pretty Thing,'' "Taking You There," "We Are The People" – Live From Spotify London

Whether you’re the kind of person to enjoy a good, bubbly pop song or you’re someone looking for new music to check out, I highly recommend giving Broods a listen to. With their fame on the rise and each album more angelic than the last, the songs produced by Broods are quickly becoming favorites all around the world with messages anyone can relate (and dance) to.

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.

Now that it seems “talking” is the new way to date, and will stay that way until another idiotic term is used to describe the people who can’t settle down and just date someone, I feel as if it’s time to go over the unwritten rules of “talking.”

Rule 1. Having feeling without feeling.
