Become Your Own Hero

In life you get to choose if you are the victim or hero of your life.

You have the choice to be the victim. Victims live in constant fear. They never have a plan, and they just wait for bad things to happen. They blame other people for not being able to reach their dreams. They blame other people for everything bad that happens to them.

Believe it or not, you are in complete control of your life. You are the most powerful person in your life. You get to choose how you react to certain situations, and you get to choose how it effects you. No one controls your life, despite what anyone says. Every decision you make, every perception you hold, and every action you take or refrain from taking becomes a strand in the fabric of your life.

You also have the choice to be the hero. You can make your life amazing. Instead of looking at the bad in every situation, you can look at what you learned from that situation. You have a chance to grow and learn from every experience in your life.

In every story, the hero is close to giving up. Something happens that makes them want to completely give up, but they don't. That is an essential part of their journey. Some people bounce back, and regain strength in a short amount of time. Some people lose themselves completely for so long, they don't know who they are. Don't give up. You will get back on your feet, whether it's a week or a year from now.

Pain is inevitable, but suffering isn't. You are going to get hurt and be in pain, but you don't have to suffer. You have to learn how to cope with the pain in a healthy way. You have to learn that this pain, even though it hurts so bad, will help you.

Be your own hero. Being your own hero means you are able to take a step back, and learn from your experiences. You are able to be happy and see the great in everything. Take control of your life, and live for you, not anyone else. Don't wait for someone to come along and save you, be your own hero.

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.

Now that it seems “talking” is the new way to date, and will stay that way until another idiotic term is used to describe the people who can’t settle down and just date someone, I feel as if it’s time to go over the unwritten rules of “talking.”

Rule 1. Having feeling without feeling.
