Building Mental Toughness

There have been times in my life where I feel like I am not happy with the person that I am, even though I have come such a long way since I was young. Even though I continue to learn new things about the world around me, there are a few points where I don't know whether or not I am happy with the person that I have become. I then begin to hear these little voices inside my head that tell me that I'm fat, that my face is full of ugly pimples, or that I'll never make it far in my future. These kinds of things can happen and they can really ruin my day that I begin to feel all negative like about how everything will turn out in the end.

Boosting one's self-esteem and self-confidence is something that most of us have a struggle doing in our daily lives. It is up to us and our own persons to become more confident with ourselves so we can continue living the lives that we want to live. There are various things that one can do to raise their self-confidence and to get their self-esteem back on track. I have relied on these tips for a while now and they have helped me with making me feel happy about the person that I am up to this day.

Talk to Some Friends

Your friends are the ones that really know you well and they know that you are full of potential. The other day, I posted a status on Facebook about how I felt like I shouldn't be seen by anyone in this world because I thought I was too ugly. I saw many comments from various friends of mine telling me that it wasn't true and that I was a beautiful person, inside and out. That night, one of my friends decided to have a little chat with me using messenger and he told me that he knows how I feel. We had a nice chat about how we both had experiences with what I was going through. It helps to have people by your side to have a nice conversation so you can get some advice on how to handle situations like that.

Look at Inspirational Photos

There is nothing better than looking at pictures of something that is pretty or of something that contains inspirational quotes. The pictures that you look up on Google can come in many ways and they can speak to a person one way or another. I suggest saving them to your computer because if there is a moment where you begin to feel like this again, then it'll be easier to look at the photos you like.

Keep A Journal

If these feelings are too personal for you to talk to someone about it, then it's advised to write them down. Even though you're not talking to an actual person about these feelings, then just writing them down can make you feel better. It is still an outlet to let all of your thoughts and feelings out of your system, but you don't actually have to tell someone about what any of these thoughts are. They may be too personal for you to share, and that's totally okay because it's just how you feel that you don't want anyone seeing the thoughts that you are thinking at the moment.

Talk to A Counselor

If this continues to become a problem for you, then it's also advised to talk to an adult about what you're going through. Adults have been on this planet for a longer time than we have so they may have also been through experiences like this. They can give you advice on how you can build up your self-confidence if you can't think of any other ways. Weekly meetings with them can give you a sense of relief just by talking to them and letting out all of the feelings that are bodged up inside of your head.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
