How to Become a Girl Boss in Less Than 15 Minutes

In This Article:

As I stared at my winter quarter schedule with wide eyes and a racing heart, I simply could not fathom how I would handle multiple interviews per week all the way through week 6. Summer programs, internships, clubs, you name it. The pressure was on.

It will be a great learning experience.

You have nothing to lose.

It's just a numbers game.

You got this.

I tried giving myself pep talks, taking deep breaths, over-preparing for interviews… but nothing seemed to be effective. I knew I had to find an external solution to my internal crisis.

And that's when the "Girl Boss" playlist was born.

Now, I listen to the entire playlist before every interview. Fast, easy, effective. What more could you ask for?

HUSTLER BY ZAYDE WOLF

A strong beat, powerful lyrics. And, the claps make you feel like the crowd is cheering for you. Merit and persistence are common themes throughout the song -- reminding you that you belong in that interview.

Memorable lines:

"I ain't afraid of the pressure when it comes on stronger

Cause I'm always pushing through

I'm always going harder

When everyone is through

I'll be here longer"

FINISH LINE BY JULES LARSON

Although this song is more repetitive than the first, it tackles a crucial characteristic of a successful interviewee: self-worth. Finish Line pushes you to acknowledge that you're worth betting on!

Memorable lines:

"In my blood I'm a warrior, the crown's growing on me

See me comin' 'round the corner, it's my name you'll remember"

"Put your money on it, put it all on me"

CAN’T STOP ME NOW BY OH THE LARCENY

This song reminds you that you're killing it. The line "ain't afraid to walk on coals" reminds you to not shy away in the face of a challenge!

Memorable lines:

"Ain't afraid to bare my soul

Ain't afraid to walk on coals

Hear the thunder when I step

You know where to place your bet"

"Can't stop me now

I'm just doin' what I do

Won't stop doin' what I do…"

MADE FOR THIS BY THE PHANTOMS

The ultimate pump-up song. This song reminds you that each moment was "made for" preparing you for the next. All of your experiences have shaped you into the person you are today. Not only that, but your actions have the power to inspire others -- even more motivation to keep going.

Memorable lines:

"Gonna push it harder

Gonna climb up higher

It's like I just can't miss

I was made for this

Show the world I'm stronger

Prove it to em' I'm a fighter”

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
