Cheer is who I am.

Because Of Cheerleading
Alycia Daniel

I was introduced to the cheerleading world when I was 8, and I can’t imagine my life without it. For as long as I can remember it has been school, cheer and anything that I can fit in to do when I was free. Cheer has pretty much consumed my life but I wouldn’t change thing because cheerleading has made me into the person I am today.

Cheerleading isn’t just about putting on the cute inform or the status of being a cheerleader for me. It's about being a part of something that works for the same goal. As well as the secret lesson that I didn’t realize that cheerleading has, I don’t just get the physical work out from being an athlete, but I also get life lessons that I can take away with me in the future. When I reflect back on the last past nine-years of cheerleading, I have realized that it has taught me so much without even realizing it.

Because of cheerleading I’ve learned to put on a smile even though situations may go wrong.

Because of cheerleading I learned to be strong physically and mentally

Because of cheerleading I learned to trust people.

Because of cheerleading I have gained tons of friends and sisters that have the same passion as I do.

Because of cheerleading I learned to be hardworking.

Because of cheerleading I have learned to stay positive now matter what.

Because of cheerleadingI learned to be a role model for the younger crowd around me.

Because of cheerleading I have learned to not only acknowledge my success but others’ as well.

Because of cheerleading I learned to give it my all.

Because of cheerleading I learned that my teammates will always be there to support me.

Because of my cheerleading I learned to be selfless.

I know I gave up a lot of my social life for it, but I do not regret anything. Because of cheerleading it's shaped me into who I am today.

I'll never forget the day that someone told me these words: "Madison, I think you're a good friend to everyone but yourself." I stood there completely in awe of that statement. Before that day, I never really thought about being a friend to myself, and at the time, I didn't really know what it meant. Now, I realize that you can't fully be there for other people unless you're there for yourself, too. You can't show up for others until you're willing to show up for yourself.

Here are five things everyone should learn in order to be a better friend to themselves. These steps are hard, but they're so worth it.

We all have a love hate relationship with winter, lets be real here. The snow makes people forget how to drive, its cold, the roads are bad, and chances are, you will be spending a lot more money than you do during the other months of the year. If you’re from the Midwest, it seems to be that winter lasts for what feels like forever. But despite the struggles that winter brings, there are so many things to love about it.

The Post Thanksgiving Panic And Anxiety

It happens to all of us, the weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas the catch up with you.

Thanksgiving Break is most likely everyone’s favorite break during the fall semester. You get to go home and reminisce with all your high school friends. That diet you’ve been on for the past month goes out the window, and you get to eat until you put yourself into a food coma. There’s no rush on homework and you can just lie in bed and Netflix to your heart’s content. To me that sounds like an ideally wonderful break, and totally stress-free.
