Becoming president of a sorority can be the most exciting and daunting experience of your life. When you become president you are now the mother to 50-plus college women and are therefore responsible for their well-being and reputation, as well as for the reputation of the sorority you all love so well. Reflecting on the first half of my term, I have been through more ups and downs than I can count and have learned more than I ever imagined. So here's an actual look into what it is like when you become president of a sorority.
1. Everyone's problems are now your problems.
You weren't the one who got wasted and made a fool of herself at the date party, but you are definitely the one who has to clean up the mess.
2. Becoming president means you are now responsible for the welfare of every single member.
Yeah, frightening, isn't it? No pressure.
3. And with that responsibility comes expectations.
Really, really high expectations.
4. You can't be too hard on yourself because you're going to make mistakes.
Sometimes you'll drop the ball, but that's okay. No president is perfect.
5. And it's not worth the effort trying to be perfect.
Everyone will respect you more for owning your flaws.
6. Planners and "to-do" lists will become your life line.
7. So will phone reminders.
Always set a phone reminder, especially when it comes to phone calls from nationals. Trust me, you cannot possibly remember in your head everything you need to get done.
8.You realize that LC's tears on "The Hills" are nothing compared to your current, sobbing melt down.
9. Note: your sobbing meltdowns will require chocolate ice cream and gallons of wine.
It may not solve any problems, but water and vegetables don't solve anything either.
