Seeing Your Beauty Through God's Eyes: Physical Beauty

Take a brief moment. Look at yourself in the mirror or your cell phone camera, just look at yourself. What do you see? What does what you see make you feel? Does it make you feel ugly? Beautiful? Take a moment and think about it. Name three things that you hate about your physical self. Now, name five things you love about your physical self. I almost could bet that the latter is harder for you to do. I've been there, we all have.

Every freckle, dimple, birthmark, discoloration, curve, anything you hate about yourself God doesn't hate. He thinks it is beautiful. Your skin, eyes, nose, smile, eyebrows, anything you love about yourself God loves too, He thinks it is beautiful. Everything about you is unique, you are a bombshell!

Yet you, LORD, are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand.

-Isaiah 64:8

I know what you might be thinking, it's just a verse that was written thousands of years ago. It's not applicable to me. It's just a way to make me feel better about myself, but then again, it doesn't really relate to me. Right? This couldn't be further from the truth!

We are so quick to judge ourselves and when we do that we take away from God's craftsmanship. We don't go on a hike and think, "Oh, that tree is ugly", "That flower's petals? Ew." So the question is, why do we do that to ourselves? We are so much more beautiful to God then trees and flowers. With that being said, we shouldn't be so harsh on ourselves. When we start seeing ourselves through His eyes instead of our own, our perspective changes.

I get it, it still does seem like an old reference but what if we made it more personal and applicable to ourselves? Sometimes we need to make Bible verses more relatable to ourselves in order to understand the context better. Here's an example:

Yet you, Lord, are my dad. I am just a lump of bones, blood, water, muscle, skin etc. (this is getting graphic I know) I'm just another human being. You, God, are the creator of all humans, the creator of me. You sculpted my blue eyes, the color of my skin, everything about me. I am the result of a beautiful, perfect masterpiece that you have personally designed.

One thing I would like to add though, is to be careful, don't totally take the verse out of context. Have fun doing this, take a moment and personalize this verse for yourself and to your needs so you can feel God's love for you.

Yet you, LORD, are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand.

Yet you, Lord, are my _______________ (now what you want to call Him ex. Daddy, dad, Father, Papa, Almighty, etc.) I am_________________, (whatever you would consider yourself (ex. Just another human, a simple woman, etc.) You are the_____________ (ex. creator, designer, sculptor, etc.) it is You who has sculpted my (3 things about your physical self, one being one of your insecurities) ______________ , _____________, _________________; I am the result of your_____________(hands, masterpiece, divine creation, artistry, etc.)

-Isaiah 64:8

Now take a blank sheet of paper, index card, or create a phone wallpaper and write out your personalization of this verse. Make it as creative or simple as you want. Then paste it to your mirror, car dash, wherever you can see it and read it to yourself when you can.

Just saying this verse over and over again won't make an overnight change. You have to truly believe it, which is so much easier said then done. Start seeing yourself the way God sees you. It won't always be easy but whenever you are feeling down about your physical self give it all to Him. He loves when you see yourself the way He see's you. Because you are loved beyond measure and so beautiful to Him.

Now that Halloween is over, it's time to focus on the Holiday Season. Don't get me wrong, I think Thanksgiving is great and can't wait for it, but nothing gives me greater joy than watching Freeform's 25 Days of Christmas, lighting peppermint scented candles, decking the halls, and baking gingerbread cookies. So while we approach the greatest time of the year, let's watch the 15 best Christmas movies of all time.

6 Signs You Are An English Major

There are various stereotypes about college students, most of which revolve around the concept of your major. Unfortunately, we often let stereotypes precede our own judgments, and we take what information is immediately available to us rather than forming our own opinions after considerable reflection. If I got a dollar for every time my friends have made a joke about my major I could pay my tuition. One stereotype on campus is the sensitive, overly critical and rigid English major. Here are six telltale signs you are one of them.

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.
