Beauty Blunders

Everyone has their fair share of makeup mishaps... What are yours?

We live in a culture that is, for lack of a better word, obsessed with beauty. I personally, enjoy makeup. I love the thrill of finding a good deal on expensive makeup and clothes. I watch YouTube beauty and makeup tutorials (thank you Zoella for properly teaching me how to put on a face of makeup) and clothing hauls like they're going out of style.

But... it wasn't always like this. In fact, I think I speak for us all when I say we were once a point where our eyebrows were awful and no one had ever even heard of contouring. Back in mid-October, I asked my Facebook friends and my Twitter followers to fill out a survey over what they considered to be their "beauty blunders."

The answers were, as anticipated, hilarious. So, here you are. I present, Beauty Blunders.

Question 1: What is the most embarrassing fashion faux pas you've ever had?

Respondent 1: "Back in the nineties we rolled our jeans up... and our hair.. ugh!"

Respondent 3: "I used to wear multi-colored track suits every day... So there's that."

Respondent 6: "Once I wore white pants... forgetting that my period was going to start..."

Question 2: What is the most embarrassing makeup mishap you've ever had?

Respondent 1: "Putting on lipstick that turned out to be way brighter than it appeared, which is bad when your lips are super thin."

Respondent 2: "I fell asleep in class and some girl put eyeliner and lipstick on me. Didn't know until I got home."

Respondent 3: "My foundation color was two shades darker than I am."

Respondent 5: "Poorly blended concealer..."

Question 3: If you could give your younger self ANY advice on beauty products and/or fashion choices, what would it be?

Respondent 3: "Blue eye shadow is never okay."

Respondent 4: "Don't be afraid to express yourself, but also remember that it's not what you look like, but of what heart you have."

Respondent 6: "Be comfortable being yourself, and stop calling yourself fat. You don't have to look like anyone else."

My answers?

My most embarrassing fashion faux-pas is a hideous lime green turtle neck sweater I wore in the sixth grade. WHY???

My most embarrassing makeup mishap is a tie between foundation that is too dark/not properly blended and my gosh darn eyebrows. At one point, I was using black eyeliner to fill them in if that tells you anything.

My advice to my younger self would be this: Wear what you like, and wear it with confidence.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
