The Beauty of Being the Youngest Sibling

Many people may think being the youngest doesn't work to your advantage – teachers are judging you by your older siblings, you're accused of being the tattle tale, you'll never have a new car, and were probably picked on a lot as a little child. However, having grown up in a house with 3 older sisters, I can attest that there are many up sides of being the baby in the family.

Your have an enormous wardrobe.

Having older sisters, my closet was always overflowing with clothes because my mom never threw anything out. Plus you look really trendy when your wearing jeans from the 1994 in 2010. Also, being the youngest of four girls meant that going shopping was not an activity but a family event, which means even more clothes!

Your not likely to get in trouble with you parents.

I was blessed with siblings who broke the ice for me when it came to getting in trouble with our parents. By the time I was old enough to start wreaking havoc, my parents were so tired paying speeding tickets, picking kids up from parties they weren't supposed to be at, and scolding them for sneaking out at night, that whatever trouble I got myself into, was hardly worth scolding me for.

You have the least responsibility.

The older siblings are going to get the grunt of the chores, have to run errands for Mom and Dad, or help cook, or pack the car before I big ski trip. You have the most carefree childhood of all the siblings, and if you ever need anything, you have your parents or three siblings to help you get it. The youngest also never gets blamed for anything – even if you were the one who painted the entire backside of the living room couch, you'll never be blamed because somehow someway nothing is ever the baby's fault.

Presents, Presents, Presents!

Having three older siblings is like having 3 extra Easter bunnies, Santa Claus's and Tooth Fairy's! Your siblings and parents went all out for you because you were their last little one to experiences the adorable reaction of the morning after Santa came. Not to mention- being the youngest means your allowance is much bigger than anything your siblings ever got.

You automatically have extra body guards.

Since people have been falling all over “the baby" since the day you were born, your older siblings aren't going to take any trouble from anyone who tries to mess with you.

You're close to everyone in the family.

Being the youngest, you get to spend a lot of time with everyone in the family. Dad teaches you how to drive, Mom will take you shopping, your oldest sister will cook with you, your other sister will take you apple picking, and the last sister will let you hang out with her friends.

The best part about being the youngest is that I was unbelievably lucky to have three older sisters who cared about me so much. Older siblings were much more informed on the life decisions I made growing up (having gone to the same schools, same decisions, and surroundings). They encouraged me to do a lot of things I wouldn't have thought to do on my own which ultimately helped me grow. All three of them were my personal editors for all of my college essays and walked me through the process. Most importantly, they tried (as hard as they could) to make sure I didn't make the silly mistakes we make as were growing up (but I guess it just runs in the family) and I couldn't thank them enough for looking out for me.

The only downside: I have a lot to live up to.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
