I have been incredibly skeptical up until this point of the new Beauty and the Beast live-action film. Ever since I can remember, I have been the biggest Beauty and the Beast fan. I mean, I was Belle for Halloween every year, I applied and worked at Disney World in hopes to work in Belle's castle and even walked down the aisle to Tale as Old as Time at my wedding. I know that movie backwards and forwards and when I heard they were doing a re-make I just didn't know how I felt. Like so many people say "If it ain't broke, don't fix it".
They cast the movie and my skepticism grew. I wasn't sure about how the actors would bring my favorite characters to life. How were they going to talk? Are they going to sing? What is going to happen? I was/am terrified.
They posted the first pictures and I was even more skeptical. They were beautiful, but I still couldn't get over the fact that Hermione was going to be playing my beloved Belle and Mrs. Potts had a weird mustache. How is this going to work?
Then, they released the trailer... I will admit that I sat there and stared at the screen for a solid hour before pressing play. I didn't know if I was going to be devastated or if I would be pleasantly surprised or maybe I wouldn't even feel anything.
I will say this. The trailer has settled my skepticism. The music was beautiful, Emma Watson was beautiful and the costumes are beautiful. I have a new found hope that it will all be okay and that this movie has promise.
I will remain skeptical until I see the movie, but ,for now, I will rest assured that at least the trailer is stunning and there is hope for this movie to blow me away.
To all the actors and people entrusted with this story, we are trusting you to make sure that this tale will be as old as time. Fingers crossed. See you soon March 2017.
