Disney’s live-action feature film of "Beauty and the Beast" earned the title of the most viewed trailer in its first 24 hours after being released last week. On Monday, Nov. 14, the trailer that was distributed across all social media platforms, had jaws dropping everywhere.
The Beauty and the Beast trailer drew in 127.6 million views in just one day. The previous record was set by "Fifty Shades Greyer," the second movie in the "Fifty Shades of Grey" trilogy, with 114 million views. Before that, Star Wars: The Force Awakens held the title with 112 million views.
If you can recall, there was a teaser trailer that was released back in May. This teaser consisted of the classical music, scenes of the inside and outside of the Beast’s castle, and only a super quick glimpse of Belle leaving viewers hungry for more.
This official trailer, however, is what myself and everyone else in the world was waiting for. We got to finally witness scenes featuring Belle as played by Emma Watson, and costarring Dan Stevens who plays the Beast. We even got a glance of Lumiere, Cogsworth and Mrs. Potts. If you put this trailer frame-by-frame next to the original film that was animated in 1991, they match up perfectly. I don’t know about you, but I felt so nostalgic and sentimental while watching the Beauty and the Beast trailer that I may or may not have teared up a little. Pass the box of tissues, please.
This specific Disney movie holds a very special place in my heart because my eighth grade play was "Beauty and the Beast" and I played one of the three silly girls as well as a dancing napkin. (Cue the song "Be Our Guest.") Watching the trailer is like being thrown back into our childhood and experiencing the magic once more. I think I speak for most of us when I say that March 17, 2017 (the date it’s released in theaters) cannot come soon enough!
