Beauty and the Beast has always been a favorite tale of mine and Disney's live version of the movie definitely did not disappoint. Aside from the phenomenal cinematography and classically lovable Disney characters, I absolutely love the soundtrack! Here are my top 5 favorite songs from the movie:
5. "How Does a Moment Last Forever"
This is a brand new song for the movie that we first hear from Belle's dad as he tinkers with an intricate music box! It's incredibly sweet and is about how memories live on forever in pictures and items, especially when that's all you have left. Belle sings a reprise of it later on in the movie when she's homesick hitting you right in the heartstrings.
4. "The Mob Song"
This song brings a lighthearted and fun beat to the horrid actions of the townspeople and will be stuck in your head for days just like the original. The beat matches the marching of the mob and is so well crafted that just for a second you consider joining the quest to kill the beast.
3. "Something There"
Also from the original movie, this song is just as gorgeous as it was the first time and is a perfect backdrop for watching Belle and the beast bond. Unlike the original Belle and the beast also do a lot of bonding outside this song, but that doesn't decrease the incredible cuteness that abounds throughout the song and the amusing nature of the servants spying on them.
2. "Days in the Sun"
Another new song, Days in the Sun is a wonderfully poignant song that captures all the hope and longing of those cursed and trapped in the castle. I particularly like this song because it captures Belle's turning point from loathing the castle to being open to liking it. Her line "how in the midst of so much sorrow can so much love and hope endure" is just amazingly perfect and sets her up to fall in love with the beast.
1. "Evermore"
The beast gets a solo!!!! A wonderfully adorable solo where you get to see and hear once and for all how much he cares about Belle and how he has changed as a person while under the spell. As Belle flees to rescue her father from Gaston and the townsfolk, the Beast looks after her and knows she will always be in his mind and he will wait for her to come back evermore despite the fact that he doesn't think she ever will.
Of course, all the other songs are fantastic as well and do justice to the originals fitting into the movie seamlessly and gorgeously; and it helps, of course, that while listening to the gorgeous tunes the audience is treated to astounding costumes, beautiful scenery and brilliant actors/actresses.
If you haven't had a chance to see this movie yet, I would highly encourage you to make it a priority.
