Other than the fact that this book is remarkable, thrilling, and insanely good, Jamie McGuire's "Beautiful Disaster" compels you to keep turning the pages!
McGuire uses a compelling and powerful voice throughout the novel that makes the reader feel as if they were experiencing the same things the characters were.
The story kicks off with the main characters, Abby and Travis, who meet in college. Travis is a charming, tough bad boy who is known for being the best fighter in town. He meets Abby in one of his fighting rings, and although he is known for being a womanizer, he immediately shifts his attention to Abby and begins his ultimate chase after her.
The story gets told from Abby's point of view; therefore, the reader can truly identify her emotions and thoughts through each situation. Abby has a dark past which makes her believe nothing good would ever happen to her; that is until she met Travis.
Abby was aware of who Travis Maddox and his four older brothers were. Although Travis was seen to be a bad boy, Abby was the complete opposite. She does not drink or swear, and although her personality was the opposite of Travis, opposites attract.
The story kicks off when Travis makes a bet with Abby. He proposes that if he proves to be untouchable in his fight, then she has to live with him for a month if he loses, then he would have to leave her alone for the same amount of time. Of course, he wasn't planning on losing that bet, and he didn't.
As they lived together, one thing was perfectly clear, and that was that they were meant to be together. Throughout the course of the book, Abby and Travis butt heads but end up falling in love. Travis thinks so highly of Abby that he does not believe he deserves having someone so great.
Personally, I fell in love with the way Travis was so protective of Abby. There were certain moments where other men would glance at her or tell her something inappropriate, and he would immediately go haywire.
There are no slow or dull moments in this novel. Each page gets encrypted with such intense dialogue that it lures you into wanting more.
"Beautiful Disaster" is a perfect name to depict Travis and Abby's relationship: a little insane. By insane, I mean the type of relationship that will scream at each other in the middle of a lunchroom and then make up a couple of days after. Their dysfunctional relationship was interesting to read.
