If you're trying to budget a cheap travel in the wide hill country of Texas, then you have come to the right place! Be it honeymooning, a respite from the daily buzz, or a getaway with friends, here are a few choices you should consider (and you won't be dissatisfied).
I was proposed to three months ago, and due to living circumstances my fiance' and I decided that we needed to have a shorter engagement. This altered our honeymoon plans as well, and we quickly went to AirBnB to find some cheaper alternatives to book!
1. Wimberly, TX
Located just 16 miles northwest of San Marcos, Wimberly is known for its green beauty and natural rivers. If you want to hike it out, try visiting Jacob's Well or the famous Zipline. If you want to give a go at a lazy drive (hey, honeymooners delight, right?) try the Devil's Backbone. Bonus points if you drive it during the sunset while listening to a creepy podcast like Snap Judgement's recent Campfire tales.
Check out Three Graces Cabin for $140 a night for you and your honey.
2. Perdenales Falls State Park
If you've ever visited Austin and haven't gone to Perdenales Falls, you are missing out! When I visited there a couple years ago, I had a blast hiking to some natural springs and taking a dip. Follow the UT locals if you can, because they know all the sweet cliff jumping spots!
If you're comfortable sharing a bed with your co-traveller, check out Whitetail Cabin for an unbeatable low price at $85. It's so close to Perdenales, you'll be enjoying a cheap stay with plenty of outdoor fun. And you get a kitchen. Boom.
Beauty. Seriously, Fredricksburg is thriving with nightlife and recreation. It's fun for the whole family! Take a hike and explore the hill country (let's just say that the Texas Hill Country is the thing to explore, ay?) by climbing Enchanted Rock. Let your inner foodie sing with delight by stopping by Das Peach Haus.
Need a place to stay? Try Abby's Guesthouse (it was featured on HGTV) for $115 per night (careful; that's a weekday price). It's conveniently located in downtown, especially for those seeking the nightlife! Or, try the awesomely priced Rumpelkammer for $99 (again, weekday price). It houses 4 people in one large bedroom - perfect for a little family.
4. Palo Duro Canyon
Need I say more? A famous location for photographers to showcase lovers because, like, cliffs in Texas. It's beautiful. Try horseback riding through scenic ranches or the famous Texas Music Festival in August.
Travelling with a friend? Stay at the wonderfully priced Empty Nest for $59 a night! Whaat!
5. DFW (Dallas, Fort Worth)
If you want the bootstrap Texas style vaca, DFW is the place to be. Best to visit in the heat of hell (aka Texas summers), the Dallas and Forth Worth areas are well known "float the river" spots, and are popular amongst college age, hang-out enthusiasts across the state. Stay in Fort Worth with your buds (or that honey) and quickly gain access to the Brazos for a lazy afternoon talking and laughing. Try out this website or even this one for information about where to tube, and hotel locations. DFW is also a great place to listen to your favorite indie music artists.
Stay at this large bed and breakfast for your 7-guest float sesh.
Well, that's it! Let me know if there are any locations you prefer in God's country of Texas.
