8 Ways To Beat The Brutal Summer Heat

We aren't in hell, but the temperature sure feels like it.

I think it is safe to say that the Texas heat SUCKS. I am originally from the Northeast, so anything above 85 is far too hot for me. After living in North Texas the past decade, I have found some ways to beat the heat and stay cool (as much as possible) during the brutal summer.

1. Swim.

If you don't have a pool, I am so sorry. Find a local pool near you, make friends with someone who has a pool, or sneak into a strangers pool. Whatever you have to do.

2. Wear white.

My favorite color to wear is black. But in the summer, it is way too hot to wear all black. Invest in some cute white or light colored tank tops to stay cool.

3. Use a sun shield.

I always use this in my car, especially because the interior is black. Putting a sun shield on the windshield can be kind of annoying, but totally worth it.

4. Stay hydrated.

Drinking water throughout the day is extremely important to ensure you don't pass out from the heat. And yes, the Texas heat really is that bad.

5. Exercise early (or late.)

Waking up early to work out is the WORST. But, it beats working out when it is 105 outside. If mornings aren't your thing, opt for a night workout.

6. Refrigerate your moisturizer.

This sounds weird, but trust me on this one. At night after a long, hot day, putting on cold moisturizer feels amazing, and helps de-puff your skin.

7. Cold shower.

I already only take cold showers, but in the summer these are some of the most amazing things. It sucks at first, but getting out of a cold shower is one of the best feelings.

8. Common sense.

Maybe the middle of the summer isn't the best time to play basketball all day. Use common sense, don't spend all day on hot asphalt and try to be in the air conditioning as much as possible. Your body will thank you.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!

There is nothing quite like family.

Family is kinda like that one ex that you always find yourself running back to (except without all the regret and the angsty breakup texts that come along with it).

No matter how long your class is, there's always time for the mind to wander. Much like taking a shower or trying to fall asleep, sitting in a classroom can be a time when you get some of your best ideas. But, more than likely, you're probably just trying to mentally cope with listening to a boring lecturer drone on and on. Perhaps some of the following Aristotle-esque thoughts have popped into your head during class.

Bob's Burgers is arguably one of the best and most well-written shows on tv today. That, and it's just plain hilarious. From Louise's crazy antics to Tina's deadpan self-confidence, whether they are planning ways to take over school or craft better burgers, the Belchers know how to have fun. They may not be anywhere close to organized or put together, but they do offer up some wise words once and awhile.

We're in college, none of us actually have anything together. In fact, not having anything together is one of our biggest stressors. However, there's a few little things that we do ever so often that actually make us feel like we have our lives together.

1. Making yourself dinner

And no this does not include ramen or Annie's Mac & Cheese. Making a decent meal for yourself is one of the most adult things you can do living on campus. And the food is much better than it would be at the dining hall.
