BeachGlow Music Festival: The Festival That Gives Back
BeachGlow

By now, many of us have our summer completely planned. Between trips to the beach, various concerts and exciting adventures with friends, it's nearly impossible to be bored during the time off from school. However, there is one event that every single person should add to their summer plans: BeachGlow Music Festival 2016.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with it, BeachGlow Music Festival is a nonprofit music festival that was created by 16-year-old Dane Kunkel in 2011 during his sophomore year of high school.

“I created BeachGlow because I witnessed the power music has to tear down barriers among all walks of life, and bring people together for a common cause,” says Kunkel, founder and CEO of BeachGlow: Concerts for Charity, Inc., which is now a registered 501(c)(3) charity.

Back then, the event was held in Kunkel’s high school gymnasium. Since its incorporation, BeachGlow Music Festival has expanded tremendously, and is now located on the beach in Wildwood, New Jersey, where it will take place over a two-day span on July 8th and 9th. In the year of its inception, Dane, now 21, and a rising senior in college, worked alone to put the production together. Currently, the BeachGlow team has more than 25 staffers, including a Board of Directors -- and various festival volunteers. Every single person on the BeachGlow staff is a volunteer, donating his or her time and efforts in order to give back to an amazing cause.

I know I have personally been to many music festivals, and none of them have made the impact that BeachGlow has. Each year, a charity is selected to be the recipient of the funds raised. Past recipients of BeachGlow’s donation include Harmony Ministries in Haiti, Breast Cancer Research Foundation, and American Red Cross. This year, national nonprofit Little Kids Rock will be the receiving charity, and this charity could not fit the mission of BeachGlow better. BeachGlow aims to use the power of music to raise awareness among many people about important societal issues and causes. Little Kids Rock is a charity that brings music programs to underfunded public schools across the nation.

As the chosen charity for BeachGlow 2015, Little Kids Rock received a large donation through the festival, and from there, it was able to create 21 music programs -- and provide teacher training and new instruments -- in the Philadelphia and Atlantic City area. This has had a positive impact on the lives of almost 5,000 children. BeachGlow aims to inspire a generation to become a driving force for change in our current world, and the efforts of Little Kids Rock only increase this driving force, working in the lives of the next generation as well.

BeachGlow Music Festival is a truly one-of-a-kind experience, bringing together a passion for music and a desire to make a difference. What started as a small performance for a couple hundred people in a high school gym has evolved into a massive two-day, multi-genre festival for thousands of music lovers, featuring performing artists from around the world. This years line-up includes artists such as: Audien, Slander, Nico & Vinz, Robert DeLong and many more! BeachGlow will also have multiple food and drink options from delicious vendors, a body painting tent, sand castle competitions, a games section, which will include volleyball, cornhole, a dunk tank, and so much more. With all of these amazing activities going on inside the festival grounds, there is something for everyone!

The members of this wonderful organization are continuing to make an astounding difference in the lives of many. To quote its mission: "Be a ripple that forms a wave, and make a difference in the world." BeachGlow has touched the lives of a countless number of people, and those individuals have paid it forward and have “spread the glow” to others. BeachGlow Music Festival is the ripple that will form the wave of making a difference.

Join us on the beach in Wildwood, New Jersey, on July 8th and 9th for two days full of sun, sand, surf, and sound, all for a wonderful cause! New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
