Beach Must-Haves

Just another day in paradise.

I'm currently in Florida, and there are some must-haves that I need while I'm here. Being a girl at the beach is such a challenge. Boys don't have to do their hair, makeup, or dress cute. They put on swim trunks and walk around shirtless all day, every day. It's not socially acceptable for me to walk around topless in 100-degree weather on a family beach. However, these are some hacks that I learned to always have on me while vacationing here!

1. Hair ties and bobby pins

If the hair tie isn't in your hair, keep at least two on your wrist. They stretch out and break easily, so always have a back up. To hold onto extra bobby pins clip them onto your bathing suit that you're wearing for the day. They are basically guaranteed to stay on!

2. Sock bun sponge

This is key, people. Especially when swimming in the pool or ocean. Keeping long hair out of your face is the best thing to do on hot and humid days down here.

3. Baby powder

This might sound weird, but trust me. Sprinkle this on the bottom of your feet before you walk on the sand so you don't burn the sh*t out of your feet.

4. Travel sized toiletries

Space saver for sure. It was a must-have for me because I pack my life when I go on vacation. Like, this trip is for eight days, and I packed enough outfits for two weeks. Priorities.

5. Hats

I just love hats: baseball caps, fedoras, the big floppy hats with cute ribbon bows wrapped around them.

6. Rubber flip-flops

Old Navy, hit up the $1 flip flop sale day. You'll be Gucci.

7. Selfie stick

Do I really need to explain this one? Just get one — it's the best $15 I ever spent.

8. Electronic device chargers

If you forgot it, you have to either borrow someone else's and be annoying, or spend unnecessary money on a new one.

9. Cool friends

So you can make amazing memories and post the cutest Instagram pictures. Get those likes, girl (or boy).

Maybe some of these were common sense, but I have an awful memory and sometimes have forgotten very obvious things.. You'd be surprised what! People always say to put down your phone when you're on vacation and just enjoy. But if you're like me and only see your best friend one or two times a year, keep your phone on you at all times. Nothing wrong with documenting every palm tree you see, every meal you eat or the cool random people you meet on the beach. Enjoy your stay in paradise

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
