Nothing in the world is better than being by the ocean on a hot summer day when you're a beach bum. Being a beach bum is a way of life, and shows in your everyday routine. Whether it is showing off your favorite beach brands, or just spending all your days in the sun and sand, we beach bums are a unique breed. Here are 12 things that all beach bums know to be true:

1. You will always find sand. Everywhere.

But, it's not even a bad thing. You have come to love the gritty feel of sand, and you know you'll be finding it for days after you think its all rinsed off.

2. Sunscreen and tanning oil often are interchangeable.

Since your days are spent in the sun and waves, you have built up a good tolerance for the sun and get a tan that was made for the gods. While all you're non-beach bumming friends lather on SPF 50, you may trade it out for coconut oil.

3. Non-beach bums don't understand why you are so obsessed with the ocean.

You've been in the surf for 4 hours without getting out, and everyone on land just wants to go get lunch. But, you're too preoccupied with bobbing in the waves.

4. No shirts. No shoes. No problem.

Enough said.

5. You almost always get compared to a mermaid.

This comparison is probably the most accurate way you've been described. If you are better suited to swim than walk on land, you are definitely in the mermaid club.

6. Your seashell collection is ever growing.

Love. Love. Love Seashells. No matter how many you have, there is never enough because each is too perfect not to save.

7. The beach is and will always be your happy place.

Your life is always better on a beach. Your hair looks better, your skin is tanner, and your smile is bigger.

8. Sunscreen is the best smell in the whole world.

Nothing can compete with the smell of your favorite sunscreen brand. As far as I am concerned, SunBum is the #1 best smell in the whole world.

9. As an avid surf shop goer... you most definitely have favorite brands.

Ripcurl, Billabong, Quicksilver, just to name a few. Checking through all the cute surf shops, you will without a doubt have a favorite beach brand.

10. You have a preference of which coast to be on, but at the end of the day, a beach is a beach.

I will always be a West Coast girl, but I'm still infinitely happy while in OBX.

11. Ain't no party like a beach party.

Again. Need I say more.

12. Summer is a state of mind, not just a season.

Live Aloha, summer doesn't end when the season does. You are always rocking beach vibes throughout life, and just prepping for the moment you can be back in the water.

So to all the beach bums out there, keep doing you because no one else understands the need to be on a beach.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
