"I just want to be someone's first priority."

You see it all over the internet. Articles on Facebook, posts on Twitter, movies, TV shows, you name it. The idea that a girl needs a guy to be happy fills our minds. This idea that you need to be a guy's first priority is seen everywhere in our society.

Well, I am here to go completely against this idea. Sure, it's probably great to be in a relationship at times. It could be great to have someone to lean on and to treat you like a princess, but when the time is right, every girl will get their idea of prince charming. Until that time comes, don't search and settle for a guy that is not right for you. Don't get so caught up on this idea that it changes how you view yourself. Don't let this idea consume you to the point that you feel discouraged or less valuable.

You don't need to be some guy's priority because guess what? You can be your own. Life is too short to be spending all of your time wrapped around some false sense of reality. You are young. You have plenty of time to find the right guy for you. He will come when he's supposed to and you will ask yourself why you ever worried about the loser you were with before him.

Until the day comes that you finally find the right one, love yourself and be your own number one. Do things that make your heart happy. Go shopping with your mom. Watch a movie with your dad. Go to dinner with your grandparents. Spend the night with your girlfriends and laugh about old pictures of each other. These little moments in life are what matter.

Focus on your goals in life. Wake up every morning, drink some coffee and kill it. Do your very best in every aspect of your life. Study hard, work hard and never give up on what you want to accomplish. There are so many opportunities in the world for you, so reach high and work towards them every single day.

Put yourself as your priority, even when you feel like no one else ever will. You know what you want in life and you know what makes you happy more than anyone else. Use those things and roll with it. Go to your favorite restaurant when you're craving some good food. Go shopping and buy yourself a new pair of heels. Watch a chick flick that makes you laugh and cry all within 20 minutes.

When you start to find your own happiness, you will be the very best version of yourself. You will find yourself smiling at the little things and worrying less about the things that used to upset you the most. You will love those who matter most more and you will value yourself more than you thought was possible. When you become your own priority, you will feel on top of the world. You will feel like you can do anything you can put your mind to. You will feel beautiful, smart and loved. And guess what? You are.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
