This Valentine’s Day, make sure you’re taking care of the number one person in your life. That’s right, I’m talking about you, you beautiful unicorn of a human being. While it’s important to recognize those special someones in your life, you are a complete, strong, and independent person with or without a boyfriend or girlfriend– so whatever your relationship status reads this Valentine’s Day, here are some tips to help you be your own bae.

Wake up with positivity

Start your day off right by highlighting something awesome about yourself. Maybe your eyebrows look amazing or your outfit makes you feel adorable. Whatever it is, point out what you love about you to get that ball of positivity rolling right from the moment you wake up.

Find your zen

Life can be one big bag of crazy sometimes but don’t let that overwhelm you. Through meditation, you can de-stress from your hectic life by taking a moment for yourself. Sometimes just clearing your mind for a few moments can help you realize the simple joy of being alive.

Work out for 30 minutes each day

Exercising for just 30 minutes has proven to improve mood and creativity as well as helped people to see their goals as being more obtainable. It doesn’t take that much time out of your day- you should take breaks anyway- and you can find all sorts of exercises online to do from your room.

Try something new

Break out of your mundane routine by doing something you’ve never done before. Leaving your comfort zone, even just a little bit, will help you to see the value in yourself. You'll gain a new perspective on your life, increase your self-confidence, and maybe even find your next great passion.

Find your happy place

Whether it’s mental or a literal place you can go, find a place that centers you and helps you be fully present with yourself. For me, I love to sit in front of the window from my room which overlooks the green center of the campus. Having an emotional connection with nature has shown to reduce anxiety, anger, and other negative emotional states, but your happy place doesn’t necessarily need to be in nature. It can be anywhere that makes you feel good.

Realize your beauty

Accept who you are right now with all your faults and imperfections. In this moment, you are exactly who you are meant to be. Once you realize how incredible you are, you’ll form a deeper, more loving relationship with yourself and with the people in your life who love and support you too.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.

For many undergraduates across the nation, the home stretch has begun. Only one more semester remains in our undergraduate career. Oh, the places we will go! For the majority of college seniors, this is simultaneously the best and worst year out of the past four and here’s why.

1. The classes you are taking are actually difficult.

A schedule full of easy pottery throwing and film courses is merely a myth on the average campus. With all of those prerequisites for the upper-level courses and the never-ending battle you fight each year during registration for limited class seats, senior year brings with it the ability to register for the final courses you need to fulfill your major. Yet, these are not the easy entry level courses. These are the comprehensive, end of major, capstone courses designed to apply the knowledge from all your previous courses, usually in the form of an extensive research paper or engaged learning project. The upside is you actually probably really enjoy these classes but alas there is no room for slackers here.
