Vision boards and more!

Do you consider yourself visionary? Don't over think it; simply ask yourself do you have a vision for your life. What do you want to become, what do you want to accomplish, where do you want to go? If your answer is yes, and you can answer some of those questions, then I would consider you to be visionary!

Having a vision for your life is important. It allows us to set goals for ourselves and gives us something to work towards. It gives us purpose! No, our visions and goals aren't always straight forward or crystal clear, but as time passes everything comes to light, and eventually we can bring forth our ideas and accomplish our goals.

It's not always easy though. We can say we want to do this or that in so and so time, yet bringing it to life can be a little difficult! For example, in 2011, the summer before the start of my sophomore year of college, I had an idea to start an campus organization. I wanted to form a group where the girls could come and talk about different things and we bond and empower each other. I really didn't know how to start an organization on campus, and every year, it seemed like something got in the way of me actually doing it. It wasn't until after I had graduated, which was TWO years later, that my vision began to blossom. I revamped it, and since then, I've been developing an enrichment program for the girls in my community in Birmingham!

So you see, we don't achieve our goals and dreams over night. It takes time! The important thing to remember is that you have to stay focused because it's easy to deter from your goals.

One way to help you stay focused and on track is to create a vision board. Visions boards are a great resource to utilize when working towards a set of goals because it helps you visualize them better. By creating a board, you take your dreams and goals and make them a little more tangible, that is, something you can see and touch everyday!

It's a very simple activity and can done alone or with a group of friends or family! Take a piece of paper, poster board, or maybe a miniature bulletin board, and place different pictures and words on it that depict what you want to accomplish. Gather several magazines and as you look through them, cut out the things that stand out to you. Maybe you want to go on a trip, cut out a picture of a plane or a picture of the beach if that's where you want to go. Find inspirational words or quotes and phrases that will push and uplift you. Maybe it's a feeling you want to accomplish. Say you've been stressed lately, cutting out the word 'Peace' or drawing a peace symbol may help you achieve a sense of peace and relaxation.

What you put on your board is completely up to you! You may want to just put your short terms goals on it or have a mixture of short and long term goals. I like to take my board to another level! If there's a short term goal I'm currently working on, I like to jot down steps of how I'm going to achieve that goal, and as I complete each step I check it off!

So if you're ready to start living out your visions, try it out! Invite some friends over or ask your family, and make it an event! You can also do this on apps like Pinterest and just pin the things you like on a board! However you do it, just be sure to have fun! Happy vision board making!

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
